Can someone please tell me what this part(see pic) is/does? I think it has something to do with emissions or the aircon, but I'm not sure.

I know it's a solenoid/valve of some sort, COULD be the charcoal canister purge valve? Do SR's have them?
it bleeds air from the intake to the dump pipe to lower emissons something like that anyway
if you fit a pod filter just plug the hose up something just under 20mm should fit with some force

i think people call it a gulp vlave or something like that.. from memory it does something with the mixtures in the exhaust. if you stay idle for a little while you will hear the little box near the airfilter flutter which seems kinda weird. well if you dont modify that pipe properly the sound will flutter like crazy. one way to keep it but disable it is to put a BB gun pellet (or similar) in the vacuum hose which goes into the top of that canister. this will stop it working. ive been told the car should run better as well because exhaust gas isnt put through the intake again.

thanks, i'll probably plug up the hose, though the little box wasn't fluttering with or without the pod filter.
Piss it off, i did. All it does is recirculate exhaust gases back into your intake. Mine was making a funny noise so i took the whole lot out and plugged the holes in the dump and air box. S14 came without one and i believe it is not needed in Oz, well QLd atleast.
sounds like the egr (exhaust gas recirculation) valve the way other people are describing it (i only know transverse? mounted sr20s).
Ive heard you can unplug it and plug its holes with a golf tee, and it still passes emissions tests.
