View Full Version : custom sump
Does anyone know of a place in sydney who do custom sumps? i have one at the moment (not sure what its off. off a 13b, possibly a s4. has pointy nose on it). will this get modified, or will a new one be made up?
how much will a job like this cost?
thanks
the s4 ones wont fit an engine with an earlier model front cover. Can I guess it is for fitting a 13b into a 1300.... ;) ? Honestly, if you are going to be farming it out, the best bet is to give someone the car with the engine in place so they can work out what is needed: cutting and shutting an rx4/5 by adding an rx2 base looks best. It cost me $90 to have a shop supply a 13b sump and graft my rx2 oil pan bit onto where I specified, and they did a nice job, repainted etc.
.............unfortunately after fitting it all up, an after marvelling in how nice it looked, I realised the trailing arm on the steering smacked the back of the engine, causing a complete re-think of the engine fitment. Thankfully, I had a guru / legend who happened to have a strangely modified rx4 pan that I reversed and it fit like a charm. The only other tip is to make sure the engine is high enough for the oil pickup to clear the base of the pan - if needed, get the pickup lengthened the same time the pan is modded.
I still have the other pan lying around - makes a nice tray for holding nuts and bolts..... using it wasnt and option for me as I hadn't had the tran-tunnel made that high.
ok thanks buzz.
yea howd ya guess...for the 1300 :)
