View Full Version : Gti-R exhaust manifold and turbo
Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if any GTi-R experts can let me know what sort of clearance there is between the standard turbo and block. I was considering an upgrade for a U13 attesa and the way the turbo sits there is no way a bigger comp. housing can fit. I have a feeling that the 2 cars share the same manifold and the reason why it fits on the pulsar is because the housing is rotated so the outlet points upwards. Has anyone out there installed a front mount intercooler on a pulsar and rotated the comp. housing so the outlet points downwards?
Also, do the S14 200SX or GT25 series of turbos fit on the pulsars with the standard manifold?

Impakt I'm currently going throught this process on my GTi-R. I'm going for a garrett GT28 400hp turbo, with .70 AR compressor and .64 AR exhaust onto the stock manifold. What looks like being the case is getting a spacer plate made up to lower the turbo away from the manifold so that the larger comp cover fits. Don't know exactly what is going to happen at the moment but all these answers will come early next week when the motor is put back together and the turbo is actually fitted.
I'll keep you informed, if you like...
How soon are you looking at doing this?
If your in Brisbane you can see it for yourself otherwise I'll get some photo's and send them too ya late next week... I'm assured the car will be back by then... so here's hoping..
Yeah pics would be great. I reckon you will have probs with the turbo either hitting the stock manifold, and/or the block. Im considering a 320-350HP GT25 upgrade with say a 0.6 A/R housing.
Let me know how you go :)

Stock the GTi-R turbo has a .60 AR comp housing with a .86 AR exhaust housing.
So a .60 AR comp housing will fit a GTi-R manifold.....
Pics will come when I get them...
If you know of any sites with pics of the engine and turbo (pref. out of the car) then can you please post links?
I checked out the size differences between a stock gti-r turbo, stock 200sx turbo and stock t25G.
the 200sx turbo was huge compared to the t25g (around an inch bigger in diameter). The gti-r was somewhere in between in size.
the turbo im after has a housing which is the same size as the 200sx turbo.

The S14 t28 I would have thought would be smaller because it has a .64 AR exhaust housing compared to a GTi-R .86 AR housing. They are the same size on the compressor side though... May have just been the way the housings were rotated that fooled ya...I don't know for sure but it wouldn't make sense to me.
I have other photo's of the turbo if your interested at

Sorry i think you misunderstood my last post. I was referring to the comp. housings only. I dont think there will be a problem with the exhaust housing.. :)

Sorry not trying to burst your bubble... As I'm just trying to confirm or deny my own thoughts about the overall sizing of the turbos... The S14 t28 has a .60 AR comp housing and so does the GTi-R T28... The only difference was the exhaust housing....
The attached file is of the Stock manifold with the Stock GTi-R T28
The GTiR T28 has a larger AR on the exhaust side, but a smaller compressor than the 200sx. You could use the compressor from the S14 200sx to get a bit more hp out of the stock turbo.
Also, JnrZilla, AR difference isn't why you can't bolt up your 400hp Garrett turbo, it's because the 320-350hp BB Garrett turbo's use a T03 Compressor housing, and your 400hp one uses a T-04s Housing.... BIG difference in physical size.

Thanks 180sx. I knew that but have never seen these turbos up close and personal, so I guess I was just making assumptions. Thanks for the info as these days without seeing them in real life you cannot get an idea of the size difference between the models and brands of turbos....
Cheers

hehe, no problems
I've spent a great deal of time researching them for the single reason that no-one REALLY knows the information I was looking for.
Now I feel like a walking encyclopedia for Garrett :)
Seriously thought about getting a GTiR turbo, with the 200sx compressor housing for my car. Now I've just gone nuts hehe
Is the s14 compressor a worthwhile upgrade for a Gtir?
What sort of hp would it flow?
Probably get another 20hp or so from it. Thats a guess though. The sizes are massively different, but the S14 compressor housing is a better match for the GTiR exhaust housing.
