View Full Version : HELP. Bodgy mod to make VLT run rich
G'day,
I think my car has had a bodgy mod to make it run rich.
it runs a AFR of between 10.2 and 12.4 on 15 psi boost!
This is a totally stock fuel system.
I heard that it could be a resistor (or some component) taped into one of the lines to one of the sensors...
Any idea on what this is???????
Any Help Please.:wtf:

Splice a variable resistor in the wire from the computer to the coolant temperature sensor.
I have done this on my 5L VN and I can make the car PUMP out black smoke, it works that well.
You need to get a resistor that has the right range. For example on my car in that wire:
0deg= 6000 ohms
20deg= 2500 ohms
30deg= 1800 ohms
...
...
...
...
100deg= 190 ohms
110deg= 110 ohms
So I got a resistor that was as close to 110- 6000 ohms (its actually 0- 10,000 ohms from memory, I just dont turn it all the way up).
Mount it somewhere with a stylish Dick Smith knob and your away. Whole thing cost about $3. And in Macca's drive-through, crank it up and cover the car behind in petrol.:D

From memory (which is shocking), the resistor had to be made part of the circuit, not just tapped into it.

Follow the wire from computer to coolant temp sensor, it will be there if there is one.
Blacbart,
I believe our friend is trying to get rid of a bodgy mod not make one. There could be a fixed value reisitor soldered inline with the temp sensor which would have the same efect though non ajustable. It would most likely be hideen by heatshrink and just inline with the cable.

Yeah, I know, thats why I wrote that. I had gone to all the trouble of typing the first lot so I thought I may as well leave it there.:D
