I originally posted this under the elec section, but I don't think too many people look there so ...

My father has put a RB30 in a LJ Torana, and speaking to some auto-electrical places, they wanted to sell him a $300 kit to convert the computer tacho signal to one which would be suitable for the stock LJ tacho.

Only one said that it would be fine to simply connect the LJ tacho straight to the coil, as it is connected with the 202. I can't see how this could possibly be a problem. Anyone have any comments? Anyone see any problems doing this?

You don't need a convertor or anything. If you have use the original loom, you can get the signal from here:

Or you can splice into the line closer to the computer if you want. You should ge a gregory's for the VL. It has heaps of useful computer info, wiring diagrams etc.

Thanks for the reply.

Is this what you have done? It's just that dad was told that it is possible it may overload the computer because of "different tacho systems".

The two use the same system. Teh orignal tory tacho, connectes to the neg of the coil, the tach output wire from the VL harness splices into the wire that connects the neg side of the coil to the computer.

I don't have the stock computer.
