I have noises in the rear end somewhere. It is now really bad.

Its hard to describe, but under a tiny bit of throttle there is no noise. When accelerating there is a thud thud thud type of noise (it thuds faster as you go faster). Under no throttle or in neutral there is a high pitched whine. My first guess is the diff centre. But i never give the diff a hard time so i can't think of why.

It is an e30 bmw (has irs). Someone said it could be a cv but i didn't believe em.

Yes, I've seen you not giving the diff a hard time on the skidpan and lvma....:D:D:D:D

On my previous E30 (not the current one) I had a problem with a CV joint that made a similar noise to what you described (hard to say without actually hearing it). It wouldn't happen all the time and seemed most prominent at certain body attitudes and hence driveshaft angles.

But it never broke on me and I was quite hard on the whole driveline of that car with 170rwhp.

Better to be safe than sorry though. If I could hear it, that would help....

Thanks :)
Well i haven't done any burnouts or hard launches on it, so unless it is really fragile i wouldn't expect it to be broken :)

I just called my mechanic and we're going to put it on a hoist over lunch. I'm hoping its not the centre :) Although it will be a good excuse to upgrade the rear end to something a bit nicer :)

edit: i can't spell

does anyone know if a stuffed driveshaft could cause these problems?
