What kind of intercooler would be better for an R32 GTS4?

tube and fin: better flow

bar and plate: better cooling efficiency

so if you have plenty of room up front, use a large bar and plate.

Is there a bigger pressure drop across a bar/plate than there is across a tube and fin?

Yuh, that's what Felix meant by "tube and fin: better flow"

How can you tell the difference between the two

Tube and fin looks like a radiator - as name suggests it has tubes and fins - ala most factory coolers. Bar and plate has what looks like large tubes, and closely spaced fins.
