- Earls
- my mine was ~$160
- yes, if it's wrong (as mine was) it'll leak like a bitch
Also worth getting one with a thermostat built in. It saves you from cooling your oil in the dead of winter when you actually want it to at least be warm.
Mine was about $80, although it was a remote oil-filter adapter kit. They'd be the same thing, wouldn't they? Or did the $160 one have the inbuilt thermostat?

Sorry where do you buy these Kits from again
I got mine from the nearest car-parts place; not a performance shop at all, just a non-chain-store Repco type place. Auto Image Australia they're called, I think, in Kirrawee - which may or may not mean anything to you (& I'm too lazy to hit the "Back" button & find out where you're from :)).
Slideways,
My local autosport store sells sandwich adaptors, which might be what you are after I think? They are a 1 cm or so thick flat metal plate that screws onto your sump where the oil filter goes and then the oil filter screws into the top of it, so it is sandwiched between the sump and oil filter. The "sandwich" then diverts oil that would go into the oil filter to a plug out the side of it that goes off to the oil cooler, and has a return plug that takes oil back from the oil cooler and sends it to the oil filter.
He just said to bring in an old oil filter and they could then match the thread against the various ones they sell, and supply the appropriate one. Didn't get costs though, sorry.
Group3JDatsun,
When you say your adaptor had an inbuilt thermostat, was it built into the "sandwich", or is it teed into the hose going to the oil cooler, or something different? I would like to have a thermostat included in my setup when I do it, but with the sandwich setup it would seem that while the thermostat is closed the oil isn't going to circulate through the filter which may be a bad thing?
cheers,
Paul
The setups with the thermostat in the "sandwich" (which is what my standard Volvo 740T one has, suits a Ford 4.1 filter thread if anyone has access to a wrecker with 740 Turbo parts) still allow oil to pass through to the filter when the thermostat is closed.

It was built into the bottom of the sandwich plate. Not sure about oil passing though the filter side of things though......what a question for 5:00 in the morning! :) If I recall, it still would have had to pass through the filter as there was no pressure relief valve in the sandwich plate. I'll try and have a look in the next couple of days and get back to you (night shift atm).
Cool, thanks for the info Forg & Group3JDatsun. Interested to hear how yours is setup then G3JD too. Take it easy on night shift too, didn't mean to stress yah! ;)
