View Full Version : Valve Shim resizing
I am getting the valves and seats reground on my 18R-geu head and was wondering how i go about resizing the shims under the buckets? i know im gunna need a micrometer and a whole stack of shims im just wondering where to get the shims from? i heard that ones from kawasaki motorbikes fit?
thanks.
worked in head shop 3years best place to reshim head in head shop as you can just tip the valves to regain lost clearance otherwise you have to buy handfull of expensive shims and start measuring. good luck.:)

Peugeot 13.75mm dia shims will work. Not sure which one they're out of, but that's what's used on at least one type of Frog engine.
No need to guess the size of the shim you need, a little work with the feeler gauges and some very basic maths will let you pick the ones that you need in advance.
Best not to touch the valve tips, as some of them have a special hard tip on them. Better to grind the too-thick shims down instead. Don't forget that you can also shuffle shims around to different holes to get the clearances right.
They cost between $3 - $4 each.
tooo late about re tipping the valves, im was told that most workshops do an exchange service for valve shims, so hopefully it wont cost to much more. lets just see of stodgy old toyota do it
