Sports Exhausts....

Hey,

What size sports exhaust should i get for my 3.3l, straight six carby vk commodore? 2.5 inch? or 2.25 inch. I have heard people say 2.25 would be the best for my sort of car, is this right?

How much you reckon it would cost to get a sports exausht fitted?

I'm thinking about getting one fitted soon, but don't know whether i should get 2.25 or 2.5...

i got a 4.0l v6 with a 2.5 inch Lukey exhst from the cat back. there will be no big difference between a 2.5 or 2.25, but in ur case i would say 2.25 should be enough
i pag 280 fitted for mine at fast fit so u might be a looking at around the same price, probably a little bit less for a 2.25 :)

sounds damn nice (apparently):

well the noise in the cabin increased a fair bit (and sometimes it is a bit annoying, especially at full throttle ;) ) but together with the K&N filter it gained over one car length compared to the STD version of my car

(i actually got it managed to race excatly the same model as mine with no mods and beat it by about 1 car length)

in general u will definately find some performance improvement but how much depends on the vehicle and varyies from car to car :)

I take it that you mean 4.0 litre inline six? :)

Just make sure you are including extractors with your bigger exhaust. You'll get a lot more value out of the pipes then.
Noise can be adjusted to a large extent via your muffler setup (or lack thereof ;) ).

i have a 3.3l vk, i have an 2.25. it is the best if the motor is not worked much or at all. If you have a bit of work done to the motor, go 2.5, exhaust cost 180 from pretty much anyway. Get extractors if u dont have them now, they cost 275, well mine did

Why not go 3 inch on the N/A?

i have read that after the extractors, fit the largest possible pipe to eliminate any restrictions. The resulting lack of back pressure shouldn't make a big difference due to the extractors design to extract the gas usingthe resonating pulses etc etc

what do ppl think of this theory??

cauz i have 2.5 inch on an rb30 and chaigning the cat to a 3inch hi flow made a decent difference above 60k's

and there is bound to be a restriction due to the up and over the diff pipe design....

any takers? :D

the flow of anything through any piping system is defined by the maximum flow through the smallest pipe of a system - what i mean is:

u can put 3" extractors on but if u have only 2.25" exhaust piping the most gas u will get through is as much as u get through the 2.25" pipes - so it is point less having something bigger than the smalles part in a flow system - but anyhow too much physics for me anyway :p

Just wait BO till you put those extactors on it! Just ware your Licence and Registration on your neck, that way every cop that pulls you over on the strand will be out of your way in 1/2 the time! lol jks.
