Hey Guys....

Got some sort of clunking happening in the car ... generally it only occurs on the freeway, where i went to accelerate in top gear it kinda just clunks when i give it a bit of throttle, quiet violently.. its gotta be diff/driveshaft related... anyone got any ideas as to what it is?

Theres no play in the tailshaft, and i havnt checked the diff oil?

Any help would be much appreciated :)

Morgs,
Sorry to haer of the clunks.
Got a few more details on the car?
Manual / Auto mods, make model etc.
Should make it easier to help find the problem.
Cheers, Pete

Morgs,
Thanks for that.
Got a VN myself and get a similar type of noise whenever the splines in the tailshaft need greasing (usually about every 12 months or so)...might be worth a look.
Can't think of anything else though.

It's your uni and/or CV joints. My mate has the same problem with his VN auto wagon. He checked them out himself, and they've got a fair bit of play. Hope i've been of some assistance :D

a wild stab in the dark here. I have seen a VP? with alot of crankshaft end float, which wasn't really noticeable in driving as it was auto, and the driver probably didn't give it a hard time. This may be worth checking. Just grab the harmonic balancer and push/pull and see if it moves.

My mums XD 4.1l auto falcon does that...realy REALY violently....if u accelerate semi hard and the tyres grip, the hole thing shakes to buggery....i usually ride it out but thats only cos were getting rid of the car in two days ;)

I'm reckon its gearbox related though.
