18R-G's were first fitted to first-generation Celicas in the mid 70's, although they came with twin sidedruaghts back then. An 18R-GEU is a later model fuel injected version, which means it has a lower power output than the early high-compression versions, but it has the better cylinder head with big valves and ports. These are a perfect base for a turbo conversion, with a turbo-friendly compression ratio of 8.3:1.

Anyway, to answer your questions:
- It probably came from an early 80's Jap-spec Celica, Carina or Corona. Note that 18R-G's were never available locally.
- 2 grand could easily cover a backyard turbo conversion.... I plan to turbocharge my 18R-G for less than this, and I already have most of the bits I need! Target power output is 200-250bhp.
- All R series engines are RWD.
