View Full Version : APEXi BOV
This thread is in regard to the Apexi bov's with the adjustable volume setup (not sure if they're the only ones apexi do or not)
Anyway, on mine the adjustor rotates about whilst I'm driving. So at some points the BOV isn't venting, ever. :(
I'm just wondering whether this could be in any way bad for the engine, since there effectively is no BOV at certain times
Cheers

do you mean the red trim ring that has the different sized holes in it that spins around,, that is just for noise... i dont think it matters what hole its over.. if your afraid if it moving maybe you can take it off which is basically the same as having it on the biggest hole on the ring
:D :D :D :D
My BOV now sounds HEAPS different!
It now does that 'ch-ch-ch-ch-ch' sound :D :D
It changed as I had to tighten up the BOV to prevent it from dropping to an almost stalling rpm, and side-effect of tightening the BOV springs was this ch-ch-ch-ch sound
Regarding it spinning about, I used some rubber silicone underneath it, to hold it firm :)
er, if its making that sound im thinking of, i believe ur bov is no longer working, that sound is the air going back thru ur turbo when u have no bov or it aint workign afaik

nah some bov's make that noise.. the hks super sequential makes an even weirder noise.
on my gfb BOV low revs will make that ch ch ch noise and high revs one big sound..
as for the apexi bov, they are meant to be able to have their sound changed by spinning that ring but i didnt notice any difference on my cousins 180sx. they also have very smal inlets for a bov that can hold shitloads of boost, i ithink my thumb barely fit in the adapter.
What happened was the top piece to the Apexi BOV was removed and then it was tightened, to prevent the negine stalling. But it cured that problem, and produced this sound. In first gear I can sometimes hear it go 'psscchht' and then other gears it does the ch-ch-ch-ch sound
hmm...
I was under the impression that it was because the spring was tightened and therefore causing the gate to be pressed in tighter, therefore air sporadically being vented
if it isn't being vented through the BOV and is screwing up my turbo, please tell me!! :(
from what i understand it wont damage ur turbo, it will just slow it down with the air goign through it the wrong way, so when changing gears it takes longer to get the turbo up to speed again
But is air actually going through the turbo, to produce the sound?

do you have some sort of aftermarket air filter, like HKS, as it sounds like at low load (little/no boost) it is coming out of your filter.
