Not to mention the SR20DET fitment into my 1200 UTE

Care to make another of your fine T3/4 Manifolds ???

I remember seeing your ute at some bodgy BBQ in canberra that nobody seemed to turn up to....

I have had it with manifolds. One is more that enough for me (until I decide the Gazelle ain't fast enough).

My goal is to have the car off the road for less than 2 weeks doing this conversion..... Not possible? We'll see

AFAIK the Gazelle was factory fitted with an FJ20, why not do that instead, would be a lot easier (although harder to find a good engine)

HoonBoy, the FJ20 was fitted to the S12 Silvia.

In ozzy we got the S12 Gazelle and it had a CA20 engine. In yanky land they got the S12 with a VG engine of some type (think it was VG20??).

So most obvious choice would be a CA18DET or SR20det.

Zac, got any pics of an S12 silvia? I've never seen one. Do they look anything like a gazelle?

hoonboy, remember that JMS S12 with the tough FJ20det?

dont have a pic off hand but they look the same but jap spec has IRS unlike aussie versions. the JMS one also had a bit of a bonnet bulge.

Yeah, it is possible to fit a sr20det into a gazelle, i was going to go down the same path, but chose against it and im going to go with the ca18det instead as its a straight fit.

I love my old school.

thing with the sr20, you might have to get tailshafts, etc as well as the whatever you need up the front.

zac, thanks, no wonder I was getting the two confused, they look bloody similar.

Hmmm they would come under the 15year old rule now to....

According to some info I had ages ago on used imports in NZ (this was before they really took off here), there were S12's with both FJ20's & CA18's. A CA18 is barely any smaller, physically, than an SR20; so it's definitely possible.

I don't know what the chances are of finding a 15yo car in Japan, though, unless it's an overpriced "collectible" like an AE86. The whole reason that 3yo grey imports are dumped here is that they don't want old cars; 15yo ones probably cost more to register per year than the cars are worth.

Which one do you think looks better, the liftback or the notchback, I'm a fan of the liftback myself, but both are hard to come by in perth, for sale that is.

My mate has got a gazelle with a sr20det in it, its a bit on the dodgy side but goes hard.

It has custon engine and gearbox mounts, tailshaft and a rats nest of a wire loom.

ill have a look but if it is anything like the sr20det in my bluebird (are gazelle and bluebird crossmembers the same?) they are just standard SR mounts cut near the bottom with a plate welde to them to fit the standard cross member.

Yeah, my friend has a sr20de in his current bluebird, i might have a look see on how it was mounted in there, wasnt a straight drop in anyhow.

Playa, I reckon I have seen that car before - it has S13 wheels on it?
I actually drove past it when he had the bonnet up and I recognised the SR20 rocker cover!
