Are they completely different companies?

Or do Motec manufacture Microtech computers as well?

Bwahahaha!!!!
It's like the difference between night & day.

Motec make modern digital engine management systems, Microtech make electric carburetors.

Actually, Haltech was started by a guy that used to work for Motec. The first Haltech analogue box was much like the early Motec screw-driver ones, then they diverged from there.
Had a sneak preview of both the new Motec & Haltech boxes and they both look pretty darn good indeed.

And wasn't Autronic started by one of the founders of Microtech? Interesting.:)

No, Autronic was started by one of the MoTeC founders (or, at least, one of the guys who was at MoTeC early in the piece). AFAIK, for many years the Autronic was considered just as good as the MoTeC, but a real bitch to program; Microtech's have always been considered somewhat "budget action".

A friend of a friend was one of the developers for Haltech. One of the prototypes he was testing used EPROM's (ultra violet light erases the data. He left it sitting uncovered of the passenger side footwell of his car in the sun, when he got back he had no program left in his ECU :)

Hoonboy - Don't suppose it was Will or Adam? :)

Bill, I can't really remember his name, just the story! I know that he is living in the UK now.

Dave comes to mind

Haltech was founded on its own and not by an ex-Motec worker, and no release was ever done with screwdriver adjustment (other than the F5 fueller). Haltech are actual patent holders for real-time programmable engine management.

Autronic was founded by a co-founder of Motec.

No EPROMS for years now, so not Adam or Will :-)
All NVRAM these days.

I'd be happy to give you mine, but both the D4S and the D5 are stuffed.
One of the output transistors on the D4S died and we couldn't find a replacement, so I grafted on the end of the loom of the D5 onto the D4S loom to make the engine run. (Had a spare D5)
The D5 ran for about a month then it died as well. Don't know what the problem is with it, but the engine just dies from anthing above idle to about half throttle.
Makes it hard to drive in traffic.

When I put the Motec on, albiet with a new inlet manifold, I got FAAAARRRRR better driveability, and the fuel economy also went from maybe 20mpg up to the high 30's.
