Hey, I used to have a very cheap audio gods 600 watt 12" subwoofer in a box with one other 12" sub.
I took it out one day to change it to a jbl brand woofer and I found that it had frozen in place. It was just stuck in place at the bottom of its movement. It was unmovable and i actually broke it trying to get it to move, when i took it apart I saw that the coil was somehow frozen in its most compressed state.
I thought it was really weird and I thought one of you well learned fellas that hang around in this section might know what happened.

You put too much power through it?

my guess would be tht u put too much power thru it and killed the voice coil or when u have been thrashing it the glue on the voice coil has melted and sumhow attached itself to the back plate of the magnet OR the magnet structure itself has cum off its normal place and moved to 1 side and therefor locking the sub in that position..

juat a few thoughts...

cheers

I think that this is spot on...but not necesarily caused by too much power, might have been not enough power...we will see how long the jbl last's because they are a pretty fragile sub

Yup, melted voice coil! done it many times before, make sure you don't turn your gains on your amp's up so much!

I once bought a "play with" sub from Tandy it was a radio shack 12" just wanted to see how much power it could take .... I blew the cone, surround, voice coil OFF the magnet, and the paper cone ended up on the other side of the boot, hey! it was worth it for $5
