Have the chance to pick up an Apexi S-AFC for my FWD sr20det... I get the usual shitty idle, backfiring, sometimes stalling and so on... (due to AFM and bov, etc).
Is the S-AFC worth looking at? I also plan to run an S15 t28 in the future, and possibly larger injectors, etc...
Should I go for the S-AFC, i can obtain one cheaply.. or should I keep saving my penies for the big boys? (considering a Motec M4). I've got mates saying save up for the big boy, as it will suit any requirements in the future, etc.
Anyone using an S-AFC, do you like it? hrmmmm
Thanks, James

I have one in my VR4 and have found it easy to use IMHO. I fitted some RX7 injectors last night & already have it running pretty sweet. The only reason I got a S-AFC is...
A - lack of AWD dyno's in north Queensland - meaning it had to be road tuned anyway.
B - I could fit it easily myself. I also found heaps of info about how to tune them on a VR4 (from Yanks) which also made it a cheap as option for my partiular situation.
It really depends on your goals.
For the mods you have listed a S-AFC should be fine.
If however if you are paying someone to fit & tune it or plan to maybe get more serious about your setup in the future, consult the tuner about it's suitability first. Remember, it is only a simple interceptor.
EDIT: Have you considered getting the stock ECU remapped or isn't that an option?
Please remember, I am not an expert! This is just from my personal experience & research.

Looks like overboost-->fuel cuts, how much boost you running?
Possible cures:
- rusty wastegate actuator if so change it.
- lower the boost....nahhhh.
- remap or change the ECU as SloVR4 has mentioned.
- fit an AF controller like an A'PEXi S-AFC as mentioned, to lower the value.
They say that these fuel cuts can eventually bend conrods, so watch it!

if u want the full tuneability get an apexi power fc!!!
s-afc can give u about 20-30kw@wheels extra just by adjusting the a/f rations since jap cars run so rich high in the rev range!

Sorry, I didn't get any pics of them. They look identical to the ones in the Aktung Silvia in the Zoom with the Yellow Celica on the cover and they sure appear to be 550cc/min. I've trimmed the full load map about -10% from where it was and its still running richer, and I dropped base fuel pressure back to 40psi from 50psi too. Stock blue topped VR4 ones are 450cc/min.

SloVR4: I know for the Evo 5 the standard injectors are 550cc or 560cc, can't remember now, couldn't you have used the Evo ones for your VR4? How large are the RX7 injectors your talking about and what series are they from?

Supposed to be 550cc/min series 4 turbo injectors, except they ar ehigh impedance and that redish/maroon colour. RX7 injectors are a bit more common so therefore cheaper.
