Hi peoples.

Got me a Autometer Oil Temp gauge!!

Just wanted to know where abouts do I mount the send for the gauge on a VL??

Is there a factory hole/thread anywhere??

I have been told that I can use a t-piece at the factory oil pressure fitting however, will this affect the reading of the oil pressure gauge?? Is this a good placement to obtain a oil temperature reading??

Any suggestions/advice is very much appreciated!!

Thanks,

Oil temp gauges are often installed into the sump plug. You can probably buy a pre-drilled sump plug from somewhere or get your existing one machined so that the sensor fits. Needs to be reasonably tight, obviously.

Just be careful with your wiring (I'm assuming its an electric gauge) that the wires from the send unit aren't going to snag on anything moving/hot/ or be too exposed to shit flying under the car.

its auto metre id say its mechanical, my autometre oil pressure and water temp guages are mechanical.

possibly. They do sell electrical ones in various ranges but they aren't full sweep, which is annoying. Cheap though.

I'm putting in Oil temp/oil pressure and fuel pressure elec autometer gauges, Phantom (white face) family. I'll have to live with not-full sweep gauges as I'm not going to shell out for omori or similar brands.

yeah guys.. its a mechanical gauge! all sorted.. im going to remove the sump and get a brass fitting bronzed into it, then the probe will screw straight it!

thanks for the help anyways,
