AVOID mass production type reconditioned engines such as *** and ************ if you want to keep the car for more than a year

Thanks, but what do you mean by mass production? if i do rebuild the engine i plan to keep the car for a few more years.
He means that companies like starstarstar and starstarstarstarstar do lots of them & have them sitting around; and that those engines aren't always rebuilt to exacting standards.
At least, that's what I think he means. :)
if you want the names of my examples, then PM me.
mass reconditioning is a bit bodgey, as the quality is poor and the cheapest possible components are used.
they grab, say, 50 holden 6's, bore them all 060 thou (which is the maximum safe limit, and is regardless of whether teh engine was maybe only 020 thou worn).
same with valve guides, theyre all replaced with el-cheapo oversized ones which dont last very long, and the bore and hone process is usually fairly agracultural, meaning they blow smoke only after 20,000 k's or so...
I dont know any reconditioners in melb unfortunately, but others will be able to help there...

Thanks for your help guys, now here comes the big question. cost . how much would you guys expect to pay for quality rebuild for a VN series 1.
thanks again for your comments.
P.S still looking for places im Melb that can do good rebuilds.
Nizpro, oh hang on it's not an RB30....Maztech maybe??:D
Is it a standard engine, or will it be worked a bit?
I'm asking 'cos it's a lot of money to spend on a VN; surely low-mileage used late-model 147kW-152kW 3800-II's would be cheaper to fit & give other benefits as well?
Just a suggestion ... I hope people by now realise that I may talk convservative but then go & do stupid stuff like turbocharging original Volvo engines instead of just dropping in instant-horsepower V8's ... :)
