i kniow that this might be a dumb question but is there a way to tell if your master cylinder is screwed??????becasue i was putting back together my gem and where the fuel lines go in 2 outta 3 of em where stripped. and ive got one a spare parts car but the brakes on that where screwed and just wanna check if its screwed before i waist time putting it in.

if there is any leaks at the back of the master cylinder where it bolts to the booster, then it's phucked.

if you put your foot on the brake and apply constant braking pressure and the pedal starts to sink, if there is no other leaks in the system, then the master cylinder is phucked.

if you cant push the pedal down (or push the master cylinder piston in) then it's siezed from rust. that is to say; it's phucked.

If none of these conditions occur, then it's fine. the true test is when you bleed the brakes. never press the brake pedal to the floor when bleeding brakes with a second hand or old master cylinder, as this pushes the piston past where it normally travels and will shred the seals on all the built up scale, rust, dirt and crap that can occur in old cylinders.
