Anyone slotted one of these into anything strange? I just read about one in a MX5 and it made me think of putting one in my '67 MGB. Any thoughts please?

I've got one that's going into a KE-55 Corolla, along with a Cosworth Sierra 4WD gearbox.
Guess that's a bit odd.

Ford NA Fairlane
EH holden
Volvo 260
Volvo 740
Toyota Cresida
Commodores
Hilux's
Various Hot rods.
Rover (sports sedan of some type, not too sure)
WB Holden Ute

That's all I can think of from the top of my head.

Bill just some information for you, you say you are looking at a V161 for a gearbox with some transfer case for 4WD, well don't know if you knew but the Supra Turbo gearbox R154 is also in a 4WD format with transfer case in the Toyota 4runner. Might be easier than a V161 4wd hack. Also cheaper.

The motor seems "tall" and may be a problem. I know that a Toyota 4 won't fit into a MGB because of this, is the V8 the same?
Oops, just looked at your site, question may be a bit premature. When do you get the donk?

Billzilla

Thanks for that, Nick.
If need be I'll check it out. Heck I will anyway! :)
I think they'll have a 50:50 torque split though, and I really need more like 30:70 to 35:65 to make the car still behave like a RWD that I'm used to.
But stuff like that can be altered to a certain extent by different diff ratios from to rear. ;)
CJ, I got one of my 1UZ's from Rolin's on the Gold Coast and the other from EKW in Melbourne.

Bill, is the distance between the bonnet and the top of the motor the same or less?I'm going to have to alter the sump anyway so it would be the distance between the upper step on each motor' sump and the highest point, the intake mainfold on the V8 and the rocker covers on the 4.

I haven't fitted the engine to the car yet.
To fit it involves cutting out the firewall, too, so it's a bit of a job! I also won't be using the stock inlet manifold as I'll be making one up so it'll have eight trumpets. Should make a fair bit of induction noise in the car I reckon. ;)

I had a small block chevy in a sprintcar with a similar setup, great sound, when you could hear it over the exhaust that is! :D

So Bill, what are your thoughts on adoption? Surely you realise how much more complete your life would be with the healthy & happy addition of a mature-age son... think of the benefit to society.

Maybe you should not ask and just adopt him as a parent!!

I am doing a mgb roadster 1965 mk1 conversion with a lexus 1uz 4ltr v8, i have a supra 5psd gear box on the back, bell housing made from dellow, i made the motor mounts from the toyota hilux mounts and just fabricated them, i am fitting power steering aswell, so once that is i will get custom extractors and a motec ecu....then many mods 2 come after those :P

Im in melbourne......and would love to talk to someone that has also done the conversion.......thanx

If you would like to contact me about my conversion ring 0421603421

Hi Pete, I was looking at putting a SR20DET ?? in but am worried about lag, the MX5 story in January's MOTOR got me thinking. Is there any major issues fitting the V8 in, I thought the headers might be the problem especially round the steering? How is it for height? my car is at http://www.brat.info/mgb.htm top left hand car pictured with my daughter.

Be carefull with the height, they are a very tall motor. Mine is as close to the crossmember as it would go and you can see the imprint of the toyota logo in the felt lining under the bonnet.

They are also a wide motor, but as long as it fits between the struts and the steering column isn't right in front of an exhaust port you should be right.

Darren.

CressidaV8, do you know the measurement between your crossmember and the underside of your bonnet, that will tell me if it will fit in my MGB?

Not off the top of my head, I'll try to remember to measure it when I get home though.

There are always options if it is too high. Jamie with the twin turbo 1UZ TA22 Celica has recessed the crossmember into the sump to get the engine down. Also you could modify the inlet manifold, which is where all the height is. Personally I think it would look mean with 8 throttle bodies crossed like the V8 Supercars run....

Thanks for that, you're right about the throttle bodies and the air cleaners... ruh ruh, don't know if i can handle the technology, the last injectors I had were mechanical and you changed the pill! :)

They are basically a 700mm cube or trapezoid. If you are close to these then you might have to be very carefull with steering and exhaust manifolds.

CJ

I just measured the engine bay in my MGB, if the Lexus V8 is less than 420mm long the sump will be behind the crossmember!

If you live in Melbourne CJ come around 2 my place and check out what i have done otherwise when i can be f@#ked i will take sum pics for u if u want.....Everything is in right height etc...You do although need a toyota 1uz-fe out of the crown so you can fit the sump infront of the cross member.....You can run extractors normal way but i chose them to run out the side......Just ask and ill tell u all i know bro......yer sr20det sounds nice

I'm in Redcliffe, just north of Brisbane, if the Lions make the Grand Final I'll make it to Melbourne. I'd like to have a look at your car. I'll post a couple of pics on my site as well if you like?
Yep Hilborne, small block chev, mmmm chicken :D
If I hit the footwell with a cut off grinder can I slot the V8 further back or does the steering get in the road?

Pete_05_

Bloody hell  where's the steering fit! Do you know what the difference in weight of the two engines is? Do you have to take the motor out to service it? :)

I don't think Essendons out of it yet, and while ever the ball is the shape it is nothing is certain!:(

BTW Kdog, I saw your 700mm comment and went to the car with my tape and thought you were kidding, the picture tells me you are right!
