Flashpoint Alarm Systems (Part of the Pirahna group)
have a new system to prevent car jacking - it's pretty cheap and was extremely effective in the tests we gave it, and worked very well.

It's the FPS600 passive arming Anti car jacking system
it retails for $495
consists of a normal immobiliser/alarm module box that is fitted in the normal way but it has 2 flat cards (about 40mm x 40mm) that are transponders.

The deal is is that you have this in your pocket (away from your purse, wallet or keys) and if you are removed from your vehicle the theif can drive away for a short distance and once the immobiliser can no longer "see" the transponder (about 70-100metres) it starts to go into hi-jacking mode - a buzzer sounds for about 1 min, then the horn starts sounding, indicators flash and an internal siren starts sounding (you could probably wire it to kill the engine too - although it doesn't come with this). When the theif stops, the immobiliser then cuts in and protects the vehicle from restarting..

Obviously if you keep the card on your key ring, the transponder will remain in the vehicle, same goes if they take your wallet with the card inside. so it relies on keeping the card seperate.

thats a top idea.....but I find it hard enough to remember where my keys are, let alone a transponder too :p

It comes with a full alarm system also?

Not sure..

My testing of the system only looked at the Passive auto arming immobiliser with Internal siren and the effectiveness of the anti-hi-jacking unit.

I didn't test the alarm component of the product as I assume it is the same as the FP600 which we evaluated ages ago and found no problems with..

Best to check with Flashpoint if anyone is interested.

Ha ha - I never open any site at work with my speakers on - so I never heard it.... Now I wish I haddn't turned them on...

Dunno about your local distributor Secoh, I deal with head office in Redfern, NSW. It may be so new that they haven't released it fully yet... It's not on their website either - but armed with the Part number above - they should be able to work it out..

Jason how would something like this rate against a typical Brant system?

The Brant AA02 system is a very good system, but it doesn't provide the "anti car jacking" feature in the same way that this module does... It does however have 3 point immobilisation as standard.

I am not sure (and for the price listed, I doubt it now that I have looked into it) that the FPS600 anti car jacking unit includes the full FP600 AUS system (which is about $600 on it's own). So, I think you will need to combine the two units to have the best protection I would think. They may even offer this as an upgrade to the FP600 AUS system...

I used to own a Brant AA02 - I gave it to Stenno when I got my tracker, but I was very happy with it's operation whilst I owned it.

As for which system - dollar for dollar is better - I can't answer that - someone who works with these things day in and day out is probably better to give you the nitty gritty, good and bad points on both units. But they do both meet the Australian Standards set down, so that is a little piece of mind.

OK, I did some further investigation..

The PFS600 (anti car jacking system) is a stand alone system,- it can be used with or without an existing alarm immobiliser, whether it be a Piranha / Flashpoint or other brand. RRP is $495

If you wanted to get BOTH the FPS600 and the FP600 (Alarm/Immobiliser - RRP $695) - then you do not have to pay the Full RRP cost for both units - they will work out a special combined price for you that makes it quite reasonable and they will work in tandem.

I think this is a great idea for people that do not want to spend the $2,200 odd of a tracker, but still want some sort of "theft with keys" protection.
example - if a thief breaks into your house, steals your keys and starts your car and drives off in the middle of the night - he won't get very far before the FPS600 system activates and starts to go into shutdown mode. The problems I always beleived with the keypad based system is that the theif knows there is a key pad, and chances are - will commit a violent crime against the owner in order to get the code to get the vehicle.. The great thing about this system is that it is completely stealth in installation - and by the time the thief realises that there is a back up system - they are far enough away and the owner has had an opportunity to either move to saftey or call the police etc.

Is there any way to have the transponder surgically grafted under ones skin?? that way you'll never lose it!

I could think of a better place to insert your transponder....
