G'Day Fellahs,
I'm on oil leak patrol on my car, want to get rid of all the ****ers. Just dropped my sump off for the 3rd time.. am having a bit of trouble getting a good seal on it so it dosn't leak. Just wondering if anyone has any advice for getting it to work first time? The sump pan is flat for both long sides, and then has a half-moon U shape on each end. I have a new rubber gasket for each half-moon, but the sides just use black gasket goop.
Last time I cleaned both surfaces thoroughly with turps, goop'd the pan up fairly well with the gasket goop, put the gaskets on and goop'd them up as well, and them lifted it up onto the block and torqued the bolts to spec (managing to snap one! grr). She's still got a bit of a leak, but I suspect it's around where the broken bolt is. Should I torque the pan to speak straight away or just do it up firm, let the goop dry and then torque it up? Any tips would be greatly appreciated!!
As for the Tappet cover.. havn't replaced it before, but have taken the tappet cover off a mate's car to polish it and it was a bitch to get the gasket back in as it's very rubbery, quite big, and won't stay where you put it! Is on a twincam car btw, so it's quite a big complicated gasket. Anyone have any advice for getting it right?
Thanks in advance! :)
