vl ignition barrell

hi guys, i have just got a problem trying to remove a vl ignition barrell, the manual i have says to slide a piece of metal b/n the ignition barrell and the housing, but this doesn't seem to work.

does anyone have any other ideas sugestions on how to do this?

I have replaced 2 ignition barrels buy puting in another sterring rack with a barrel & key in it. I tried with 2 VL's that ive had to replace the barrel. I ended up going to a wrecker & getting the complete column :)

There is a small hole that is usually covered over by casting, if you fit a small screwdriver in there and insert the key it will slide out.
