hey,

just wondering what are the things to look for when buying a rotary? Theres an rx7 series 3 on gas research i wanna check out.

any tips, on certain noises coming from the motor? a certain smell from the exhaust? or any other tips. or what revs it should idle at.... (motor is stock)....

any help would be much appreciated.

car seems really good from the few pics, just want some sound advice.

I have been told by a couple of Rotary people that if you can turn the harmonic balancer easily (motor over) with your hands its a sign of a dying motor. You're then looking at $1-1500 for just the parts of a rebuild.

Ditto sv_i's ausrotary comment. Just remember to do a search before asking something as common as this, or you'll cop twenty five replies saying "Do a search!"... :) and yes, one of them will be me!
But being able to turn the crank over with your hands is nothing to be concerned about in itself. They're not like piston motors where there's tons of drag from a squillion moving parts, and the slightest hint of compression will provide too much resistance to turning by hand.
