hey all

my vs makes an odd hum sort of sound. it seems to be coming from the front left wheel. it disappears when i steer to the left but its there when driving straight or steering to the right. its not that loud but it seems to pulse louder and quieter consistantly. it only happens when moving. anyone have any clues as to what it is? it's getting a wheel balance in the next week or so, but i dont really have the time to give them the car just yet so i'd like to take a look myself first..

thanks :)

No idea but have you ensured the power steering reseviour is up to the full mark with auto trans fluid?

yeah the level is fine, did a flush when i first got it too (made no difference)

i get an odd noise when steering while parking too which may or may not be unrelated

if i turn from lock to lock, at regular intervals it makes a squeakish sound. not the normal crunch/shudder you get with p/s but a squeak! you can feel a slight vibration throught he wheel at the same time.

very hard to explain sounds on the net!

I have had VR's and VS's with odd noises in the steering .What it is ,at the bottom of the steering column looking up from the engine bay where the steering shaft comes from the firewall to the rack.Well at the steering column there is a rubber seal/bush..Slide a thin screwdriver under the edge of the seal and spray some silicon spray in under the seal..The dry seal can give some strange groans..
Also have you tried another tyre on the L.H.F ??....
