I work at secure parking, (have done for a few years now) and believe it or not, sometimes it can be secure. It seems that after that Gatecrasher party a while back (at olympic park), when some 200sx's got their windows smashed in and stolen, security has been beefed up.
Im not saying its a Fort-Knox now, (and I cant speak for other car parks, but I know Harris Street has had some new security systems installed), but just for now, here are some tips.
This apply mainly to Olympic Park, but can be used elsewhere, and at most other carparks as well.
1. Park near security cameras - they are the black domes sticking out of the roof, or suspended from a pole - dont worry, they all have working cameras, no placebos. All the feed from these cameras not only goes to base, but also to the Olympic Park Security offices, and those fellas have guns.
The zoom on these cameras is stellar, and they have 360 degree viewing area. It is hard to find an area of Olympic Park that doesnt have coverage (i know, smoko-breaks are impossible now).
2. If you think something has happened to your car, or if it isnt there at all, go straight to the nearest car park employee and ask if there is available footage (there will be, and it can be accessed straight away, usually over the radio, then the attendant can tell you whats happened). If whats happened to your car is not available straight away, it can usually be accessed within the hour. Then ask to see the manager on duty, or the nearest security officers.
3. If some scum sucker has done something to your car, or if it is missing, it will be on tape (make sure you fill out a report form while you are there, or one for the police if they are needed - apparently its useful for insurance and processing). Dont worry- if the criminal was stupid enough to do it near a camera (which they pretty much always are), he/she will be caught.
Theres probably some other small things, but always remember to take your valuables with you (putting a baseball cap over your phone, or a jumper over your handbag (or man carrycase accessory) really doesnt work.
Oh yeah, alarms in car parks wake the dead, so if you have one, chances are if it goes off, you will hear it too.
