Webber off pace or pacing it early?

Looked at past race P1,P2. Just looks like a fashion for Webber...

i'd say pacing - two red bulls and a sauber in that top ten list.

Here's your answer:

BMW boss Mario Theissen has said that he isn't bothered by the poor positions of the Williams drivers in Thursday's practice at Monaco, claiming that the drivers were trying to save their equipment for later in the weekend.

Mark Webber was twelfth fastest in the quicker of the two hour-long sessions and Nick Heidfeld only 16th, but Theissen insists that, despite common belief, Monaco is just as hard on the engines as any other circuit.

"I'm not really disappointed because both drivers focused on tyre selection and did long runs," he told Crash.net, "We had to look after the traction control at low engine speeds, which we don't have anywhere else throughout the season, and we also had to look at the temperature situation, as we have higher water temperatures due to the slow speeds.

"Both drivers completed their programme, but I have to say I didn't even watch the position in the rankings. We didn't have any problems, and we'll see how much it's worth on Saturday."

Theissen confirmed that, while people tend to think of places like Monza and Indianapolis as engine breakers, Monaco presents its own special challenge. With most of the top runners on their second race weekend, that could prove to be tough for some cars.

"Normally, you would say this is not an engine circuit but, as I say, the thermal stresses are quite high due to the low air flow through the radiators," he explained, "Hypothetically, anything can happen, but there's no indication that it would be harder for us than any other race."

So they could both very well end up being limited to make it to the end like has happened so many times this year. Hate to say but I can't see webber finishing much better than 7th here :(

But really thats for everyone, so it comes down to how much...
He really just needs to be infront, if he gets put back and pressure is on,
the tryes will wear and could see him DNF

I watched both of these sessions and Webber did do lots of testing laps. He did two stints of 10 laps:
M. WEBBER
M. WEBBER 1:19.771 21.0 39.7 18.9
M. WEBBER 1:19.117 20.6 39.6 18.8
M. WEBBER 1:21.100 21.5 39.8 19.8
M. WEBBER 1:19.700 20.7 40.1 18.9
M. WEBBER 1:18.605 20.4 39.3 18.7
M. WEBBER 1:18.600 20.4 39.3 18.9
M. WEBBER 1:18.492 20.3 39.3 18.8
M. WEBBER 1:19.800 20.1 39.3 20.4
M. WEBBER 1:18.274 20.2 39.2 18.8
M. WEBBER 1:22.700 20.2 39.7 22.8

M. WEBBER
M. WEBBER 1:18.219 20.2 39.3 18.6
M. WEBBER 1:17.997 20.2 39.0 18.6
M. WEBBER 1:17.728 20.1 38.9 18.6
M. WEBBER 1:18.600 20.1 39.2 19.3
M. WEBBER 1:18.200 20.1 39.2 18.9
M. WEBBER 1:18.400 20.2 39.4 18.8
M. WEBBER 1:18.100 20.2 39.3 18.6
M. WEBBER 1:21.500 20.3 42.5 18.7
M. WEBBER 1:17.800 20.1 39.1 18.6
M. WEBBER 1:20.400 21.8 40.0 18.6

With a fastest of 1:17.728

Alonso's stint when he did his fastest lap:
F. ALONSO 1:15.835 19.8 37.8 18.1
F. ALONSO 1:19.400 19.9 40.1 19.4
F. ALONSO 1:21.200 20.0 39.6 21.6
F. ALONSO 1:16.600 19.9 38.3 18.4

His next stint was 10 laps and did a fastest of 1:16.8
Raikkonen did a 10 lap stint and did 1:17.7

No other drivers that did a 10 lap practice stint went faster than these three.

Neither Webber or Heidfeld did less than 9 lap stints in FP2. I expect then, that they will do the low fuel qualifying test on Saturday. The Williams is still a bit off the pace but we already knew that.

What in effect BMW are saying is that their engines are more fragile than the opposition's. Otherwise, why are they having to go slower to preserve their engines?

Should have Nissan donks in em :yup:
