Got my bike learners today - Did the written test, all of five questions of which I got four right.
Guess that's okay because I didn't study for them at all. (Shit they're easy!)
Doing the Q-Ride big-bike thingy on Sunday, then the test on Tuesday.
Farking look out!
Come riding bill :D
Track day in about 3 weeks time ;)

Can someone please tow me?

Nah they were much harder.
Stuff like -
Q: Where should the rider put their feet when riding?
1. On the handlebars.
2. On the rider or pillion passenger pegs.
3. Only on the riders pegs.
Q. If you haven't done the Q-Ride course, what is the largest bike you can ride for the first year?
1. 250cc
2. 500cc
3. 1000cc
Nearly panicked and ran out of the joint they were so hard. :)
Cplus the difference between QLD and other states... (Other countries) is that on a L's for motorbike you must ride accompanied with a liscenced rider blah blah blah while other states you're allowed to go off by yourself willy nilly with a learners (why bother getting the liscence at all?)

which one did you get wrong then?

I hope that means riding alongside!

There was one where they asked if an L-Plater rider could take -
1. No passengers at all.
2. Only a rider who has had an open licence on that type of bike for more than a year.
3. Only a rider who has had a provisional licence on that type of bike for more than a year.
(Something like that anyway)
I guess #1 wrongly, it was option #2.
Good stuff Bill. Look forward to a few months of wobbling and then you'll be unstoppable. Until plod gets ya :(
Yeah on ya Bill, you will never look back once your on two wheels (coz you will be too busy passing everything that is in front of ya hehe). Ok that is not good advice to a learner, but yeah it really is a pleasure and a privilege to get out and about on two wheels.
And post pics of your 'prilia too when you get it.
Did my learners course yesterday.
The ACT is a bit more difficult than QLD by the looks of it.
Had to do a 9hour course. Includes cornering, braking all of the low speed balance/turning excersises, clutch control, brake control, counter steering, emergency braking etc.
I was very suprised no one failed the course, although there were a few people there on their second attempt.

Oh Dear!
I must say that I've partaken in 1, 2 and 3...
Ready to tackle Stanley River Rd yet bloke? :D

Did the first of the Total Rider/Q-Ride days today - in the bloody rain!! - and it all went okay. The hardest thing to get used to was the low-speed cornering, doing it the way they want you to do it. (Leaning the opposite way to the bike, etc)
Do the licence assessment on Tuesday, so fingers crossed I'll be set loose then!

Bill leaning the other way make the turning easier, you are changing the centre of gravity so the bike trys to balance its self thus throwing you into the corner you want to go around. If you dont belive me try balancing a can or bottle to one side, it falls to other side unless you lean it to far.
Just done lean on a trike or a quad or you will pay the price, trust me i did

Where did you do the course Bill? Have had my L's for ever but never got off my arse to do Q Ride and get a real licence. (and there is one 5 minutes from me at Brookside)

Been doing fine for years doing whatever it was I was doing. Never mind, I'm doing it properly now.

Cam - long time no speak.
I did mine at Ridesmart... their website is something creative like www.ridesmart.com.au or similar. Two day course, one on the two fiddy and the next to get your unrestricted turbo Hayabusa license.

Went to the Aprilia dealer today.
I'm very aroused ...
Ahh yes I am in a state of perpetual chubiness due to the RSV-R. Might get one on finance after I get back from overseas next year.

....and you'll be very poor if you buy one! :p
They are a sweet bike though, just don't crash one!
A good mate's brother had (has) an Aprilia Falco which he used to race; that is until he stacked it. Now he's up for big $$$ to fix it and he won't get 2/10ths of what it cost to buy when he sells it.

No offense Bill but Top Rider SHOULD NOT HAVE A Q-RIDE LICIENCE FULL STOP!!!
Untill someone can prove to me that you can successfully have ONE instructor teaching eight learner riders on the road at ONCE on the main road I think Bernie Hatten(?) should be shot. I don't know how he can sleep at night.
I have been riding a 1000 for the last year on L's and when I went for my Q-Ride I was amazed at what I still did not know. The instructor showed me lots above and beyond Q-Ride requirements, stuff that helps you stop being a smear on the road.

We did very little on the main road, FWIW.
Mostly car-park stuff, braking, cornering, etc. That was in addition to the Q-Ride stuff and I reckon it was okay but yes very short in total.
I don't agree with their reasoning of taking you time to set the bike up to do a quick stop. If it's critical for stopping distance then you MUST get on the stoppers as hard and as fast as you can, no mucking around.
It may well make all the difference.
You've been riding a 1000 on your L's for the last year and yet you don't think TopRider should have a Q-Ride liscence? You bloody numpty did Toprider mention you shouldn't have been riding a 1000 on your L's? Thats somethign I think you should have known... I'm really not surprised at all there was stuff you didn't know who's there to teach you things on the road? Is there a curriculum? or do you just go out (like they do in other states) and let natural selection take care of things?
I've done a few track days with TopRider and they're very well organised
Unlike the motorcycle riding school which is now owned by Team Moto if you want to talk about dodgy Q-Ride I'd be looking there long before looking at Toprider and they have I believe groups of 8 or more aswell...
Bill - I'd say for the first 6 months or so just get something nice and sensible (Bahaimus has a nice monster there which would suit your needs) Something thats not gonna cost an arm and a leg if you bin it or drop it at some stupidly low speed - At least with your size you shouldn't have too many worries with stupid low speed drops :D

Sorry I mis-wrote that, I meant 250 licience.
The brake reasoning is so you don't lose the front wheel. You are loading up the suspension first and taking up any slack in the lever then braking. Alot of the new bikes especially with radial mounted calipers have extremely powerful brakes, just crunching the lever can easily cause a front wheel mono.
Sir Revalot

You mean an endo or stoppie?
A front wheel mono is when the front wheel is in the air - normally referred to as either a mono or wheelie (wheelstand).
I was under the impression radial is no better just it provides better feel...
Dude its pretty bloody hard to lose the front
Sir Revalot
09-07-05, 09:39 AM
Well hard-ish, but if you're not trained properly/experienced enough it can be quite easy to lose the front if you, for example, brake hard with the front when you've already started turning.
Granted, none of us experienced lads here would do that, but those who have just started could possibly fall into that trap just due to their lack of roadcraft/riding skills, which is why it's not a good idea to ride a big-bore sportsbike before you have some solid hours of riding under your belt!
