Should be a good race. (Dunno why, just couldn't think of anything else to say...)

Email from Williams:

To address the tyre incidents that we experienced in Istanbul, we have worked through all the possible variables, such as pressure and camber, with Michelin. In the Williams R&D labs at Grove we also performed some loaded tyre tests to check what type of deflections the tyres would have seen during the lap. Finally, at the test in Monza last week, we went through various trims of the bodywork to ensure that there is no possibility for the tyre totouch anything on the car. We also worked through cooling levels, brake set-ups and tyre evaluations to select the optimum configuration for the FW27 in preparation for the race

They had to run a special test to see if the tyres failed due to touching bodywork? :wtf:

I still call tyre pressure issue. The outside right was the highest loaded tyre so failed first and early... Surely they are due to score some frigging points this race?

if they can't get within 20km/h of the fastest cars they have no hope.

The Williams was the fastest of the lot flat knacker last year - bet they're well down this year.

Williams were fairly competitive at Monza testing last week. Nick was noticeably slower at a track he's never raced on before.

My money is on Webber to look competitive for a top 8 in qualifying but suck during the race with slow straightline speed.

Oh and Montoya to try too hard again :D

Or for shagging his tyres a little much to be competitive at the end of the race?

Boring track but usually good racing. This one has Mclaren all over it though. My tip is for both Minardi's to beat the Jordans :)

interesting tid bit in an article i found....

Michael, meanwhile, is concerned that top speeds at Monza this year - in excess of 370km/h for Williams' Mark Webber, for example - are too high.

Seems like the BMW is finally delivering the good engine wise - or Frankies lads have trimmed a heap of shit of the FW27's body work to get the drag right down.

5th fastest in testing behind the Renaults and McLarens too. Hmm, lets hope no bullshit happens at the start and no mechanical gremlims for the Williams.

Chance of a strong finish it seems.

Disregard power, braking is also hugely important at Monza. not for overall wear, but stability during braking. next week will have all the answers. Again , i'm not making any podium predictions :)

alonso retired blown engine

Cplus

who apart from Webber, Nick, albers, Massa and Schumi are on new engines?

I assume the above due to the DNF at Turkey - but who else?

Alonso with a blown engine would be sweet :D unlikely however.

Actually, I'd like him to blow up in Qualifying.

and then toil all race for no points - muhahaha! :D

bullshit isn't it.

they need to go back to practice times meaning something, ie: pre-qualify, then do single lap low fuel quali.

pace at one track has NOTHING to do with the next week. it's crap.

Chassis: FW27 04 (T-Car FW27 06) / BMW P84/5 Engine: 1st GP
1st Practice: 2nd (1:21.816 min)
2nd Practice: 5th (1:22.032 min)
We had a pretty good day and we went through all of our programme. My car ran reliably and the mechanics and engineers did a good job in getting everything ready. We still have to work on our long distance pace because the balance still wasn't ideal this afternoon so we'll work on that in the practice sessions tomorrow. In the second session today we had the best track temperature to do the balance work for the race. We have a bit of work to do tonight but we are not looking too bad at all.

Sounds allright to me. Might be worth watching. I'm a sucker for MW I think :D

Saturday Practice on now...

Schumi is back? Sitting in P2 at the moment behind Kimi. Rubens seems to be nowhere.

Webber still going strong in P6 with Pizzonia in P13.

Antonio Pizzonia has stepped in for Nick Heidfeld. No official release yet, but he's driving Prac 1 this morning and seemingly, the race.

Zac
03-09-05, 06:35 PM
Nick had a shunt in testing recently. Might be suffering the effects of that still

Nafe
03-09-05, 06:45 PM
Interesting that Nick did Friday though?

Anyhoo, here's the reason....you got it right zac.

"The big news of the session was the appearance of Antonio Pizzonia in the BMW Williams. Nick Heidfeld was not in action today after complaining of headaches as a result of his crash on August 26th at Lesmo 2. Pizzonia was 13th fastest and undoubtedly rusty as the team did not test the Brazilian ahead of this race, running GP2 racer Nico Rosberg instead. "

Williams saturday quotes:

Mark Webber (P14): “The car seems to be reasonable so far this weekend. Last week in the test here we showed some positive steps in performance in relation to the outright pace. Clearly the people working back at the factory have done a good job in the wind tunnel with such a low down-force package which you need in Monza and also BMW is pushing hard for this race. Having to start as second qualifier didn’t help, but I am happy with my lap anyway. The race in Monza is usually hard on the tyres and the cars are sliding a lot around the corners, but it’s the same for everyone and it should be an interesting race tomorrow.”

Antonio Pizzonia (P16): “I was still sleeping when the telephone rang this morning at 8:30 and they told me to rush to the track. I have been away from the car for nearly three months and the last time I drove an F1 car it was fitted with a V8 engine, which makes a big difference. Obviously it was a bit tricky to get used to the car so quickly, but I am happy to have the opportunity to race for the team again. Knowing that I was going to be the first car out for qualifying, today we concentrated more on race set up but I am happy with my qualifying lap, considering the situation. There is a lot more to come from me and hopefully I can do a good job tomorrow.”

Sam Michael (Technical Director): “This is more or less what we were expecting from today due to running first in qualifying. After last week’s testing and the four free-practice sessions held this weekend, I believe that we are much stronger than the qualifying positions would suggest. We have a good strategy for the race tomorrow and our target is to get the cars into the points. We did not have any mechanical issues today. Under the circumstances Antonio did the best he could at such short notice and with little practice.”

Don't know about you guys, but that reads to me like Williams are planning another long first stint like they did in Hungary. Should be a good race anyway.

If it's genuine speed they had in testing and fuel, then it is promising.

Pay day for you if he wins eh? :)
I don't know why they paid up but when they're paying 3.25 I'll take it without argument :D I think because places like formula1.com had kimi on top but listed with "+10 place penalty" so whoever enters the results just assumed the crown goes to monty. Lucky they missed the press conference
