hey
A mate of mine is giving me his RS to have for a while before he sells it, he just had the motor rebuilt and as he has no licence it hasn't been run in. I have never run in a two stroke before, do i just treat it similar to a four stroke or what?
cheers
2 strokes and 4 strokes all have pistons and piston rings which need bedding in, so "yes" you should run in the 2 stroke. :)

cheers, but is there any preferred method for 2 strokes?
Ride them easy (no big rpm) and make sure not to run out of oil or fuel.
I watched a mechanic run a 125cc race bike in at the MotoGp this year. He just stood there with the bike in neutral twisting the throttle about half way and letting it snap back. He did this for about 20 minutes at a guess.
Ofcourse he could have just liked the sound..

I was always told to use varying revs but no high load low rev type stuff - basically without revving the tits off it let it get up a bit of steam without too much load on it (eg don't go chugging uphill in high gear). The most important thing I was told was to keep it varied and don't let it sit on the same revs for too long (as well as don't thrash it) - worked well on the 5 or so 2 stroke engines I ran in.
Echo the oil and fuel comment as well - and don't be a tight arse or lazy and not put in good semi synth oil for first minimum 200-300k's to run in and premium fuel (switch to full synth after) Nothing kills high strung 2 strokes faster than shitty oil!!
