View Full Version : F1 Driver
Position Vacant: Driver for the Williams-Cosworth F1 team.
Must be able to continuely disappoint and have a good knowledge of finishing mid field at best. Would be an advantage to be able to complete a race. Previous driver spent more time walking back to the pits than driving back.

yeh cos it's fully his fault the gearbox packed it in?
for shame dcr!
u take that shit back
Could also add one for BMW Sauber
wanted, prefered not to have been ex world champion, so he could have actually retained some of his pace, and not replaced it with ego. being a character is not a requirement, something resembling a desire to be quick is.

DCR, you must be the only person on this board brave enough to say what you feel in regards to MW, good on ya it makes a refreshing change to the usual bleating that its never his fault.
keep up the good work.....
cheers
Tall Poppy Syndrome is alive and well in Oz......
Nafe, show me where MW is Tall?
Nafe, show me where MW is Tall?
Ive met both of you I reckon he might have you. :)
Nafe, show me where MW is Tall?
He's in Formula 1. Nuff sed.
I have great admiration for anyone who makes it to the top level in any sport. I am not saying he cant drive. He obviously can. My opinion is that within the F1 level, he is no more than an also ran. If MW was from Japan, Germany or any other country, I think others would state the same.
If you honestly think that the likes of Sato, Idea, Monteiro, Albers, Karthikeyan etc could do the same as Webber in equal equipment, then that speaks volumes for your F1 knowledge. And obviously blokes like Patrick Head (who is known for praising his drivers endlessly....not) praise Webber for his abilities, they must be just spinning stuff for the PR people right? Sheesh...
Nafe, webber is a good driver, but as a racer there are question marks. You among others stick it to heidfeld and others as being below webber, yet question the intenion of us other mere mortals if we question webber. Lets face it you feel patriotic defending him, i feel like im being realistic saying as good as he is he isnt even in the top 8 in F1, and every time he opens his mouth its always someone elses fault.
At the end of the day its great you feel loyalty to him, but to say any aussie who questions his ability is "not very knowledgable on F1" is a crock of shit, more than a few of us actualy had our eyes open when hes made c grade mistakes, when hes been pressured from behind and made mistakes, when his stratergy cost him points or a higher podium, and that great "woo is me" bullshit at monaco when the great webber couldnt even be happy that hed made the fucking podium because his own team mate out did him.
But im just a lounge chair F1 fan so what do i know, you can tell me i told you so when you hero actualy does something good.
cheers
Try reading what I actually posted mate. I said if DCR thinks that Webber;s abilities rank down with the backmarker drivers, then he obviously doesn't know much about the drivers or their abilities.
I'd say you're pretty ignorant too if you think Monaco was anything to do with Webber's ability. How do you think he was in front of Heidfeld to start with? The only reason Nick got in front was because Sam Michael called him in for his stop first. Unfortunately anyone with half a brain could see whoever stopped first would get the clean air and the jump on the other.
When Webber wins , I'll be too busy celebrating instead of sitting back with the likes of you and DCR dreaming up excuses as to why he won and who should have won instead.
Nafe, what about if he doesnt win though. Will that be someone elses fault?
I have no doubt that if he's in winning positions and blows it, he'll regret it and admit that he blew his chance to win that race (or races).
I'm with DCR, I hope he makes it on the podium but i struggle to see it being on the top step.
I hope I am proven wrong sometime soon.
For DCR :D

i don't mind if ppl think webber is 2nd rate, everyone is entitled to their opinion. it just amuses me though when they justify it and come out with a load of absolute bullshit :)
btw in terms of driver skill something still stuck in my head is an incar view last year at melb when it was wet in qualifying, a minardi driver driving that thing in the wet - his car control and speed in correction the continual snaps at the rear was astonishing - yet of course most people would think he is crap as he is at the end of the field :)
i think webber has been fantastic this year but unfortunately hadn't had much to show for it. I'd be curious though if he regrets turning down the renault seat.
this is the first year mark has had a car that is truly a decent speed compared to the other runners - give him a little while longer, in a few races where the car makes it all the way at least.
Wait for Monaco.
I'm putting money on him to win there.
Don't be surprised to see some running on fumes if they get to Q3 and then doing a 13 lap first stint just to get pole.
Hopefully SM doesn't go with such a stratgey cause I think it's a flawed one - still think a few will go for it though.

I don't think I agree its flawed, I think it has alot of merrit, pole position has won the last 2 years. Not saying it is a definate win if you put it on pole but I do believe you have a MUCH MUCH better chance then the rest of the field at Monaco.
Happy to be proved wrong though...
Mark has the ability to stick the FW28 on pole in Monaco, light load or not.........if Williams F1 can keep the car on the pace through the year. I hope they do.

hey I actually *do* think it's a good strategy. If Renault use it - and get pole, they will flog the field. Unless the fuck up in some other way.
I don't think Williams can win with it as their ultimate pace is not good enough.
IMHO MW would be best placed to go slightly longer. Hopefully he can put the car up two or three places higher than it should be. ie: have some lighter cars behind him - hold them up, ruin their race and then make hay when the sunshines (ie: when the cars in front pit)
Similar to the idea at Melbourne, but Monaco is the track to make it work - and if there is a safety car at around lap 10 even better :D
I reckon he can win it from the second row or better. any further down and he is screwed.
/nostradamus mode off
All shit drivers those....
Never said he was shit. How about a little wager on how long it takes him to become World Champ. I say never, you can have everything in between.
Deal?
I think he has more chance than most, due to more skill than many.
but it takes a lot of luck as well as skill to be WDC.

I think you'll find I also spoke my mind on teh matter with the "Is mark webber a choker" thread. I think it was lost in the swede hack though :( Hence im not the most popular person around here, how dare I have a different opinion !
Nafe: You really do seem quite dellusional I must say :) He has no chance of winning a race in the Williams, I don't think it could complete a GP in its current state if they were to drop the revs 5000rpm. If he goes to Renault maybe he will fulfill some of the promise he has shown. I've stopped putting money/faith on him, he's a gauranteed dissapointment! If you could back him to DNF at the TAB I'd have $100 on him every race.

Tall Poppy Syndrome is alive and well in Oz......
I agree!
Aside from Natural or learnt Skills, It takes years of Drive and unparallelled Single Mindedness. Not forgetting much support for any driver to get so far:-
from family during youth,
from partners prior to sponsorship,
from small sponsors until bigger ones offer up the $$$$
there are many skilled drivers in Australia. There are only a small % of them that perhaps deserve a F1 seat and even if they have the skill, the right place at the right time still plays a huge part so good on any Aussie who has had everything come together!
MSL
p.s. oh yes and MW is not too bad to look at either:)
