Yep I'm into old Japanese stuff.

So I bought this old MarkII from a deceased estate about 4-5 years ago. It was an 4M auto poo brown coupe.

Behold the power of the 4M.

The car was bought with club sprints in mind, so out with the 4M and in with the toojayzee no shit.

Needed to make up engine mounts of course. Used a W58 gearbox and modified a more recent Corona crossmember to fit.
Looks like this:

Completely internally standard motor with 48mm ITBs, mandrel bend exhaust and M800 doing the thinking. Makes this power:

Up front, Crown hubs, 330 mm Mustang Cobra rotors and AP 4 spots. At the back 307mm Supra rotors with Celica 4WD 2 spot calipers. Hilux LSD FTW.

Fronts - original brakes at the left!

Usual stuff seriously uprated spring (900 lb/in front, 250 lb/in rear), 30mm adjustable sway bar front, 24mm rear. Modified stuff so I could run 4.75 degrees camber at the front.
16" ROH somethings with Yokohama Advans.

Looks like this now.

Dorifoto!!!

Did a 13.8 @ 100. Runs 200 kph at the front straight at Calder. Have done a 1:12 there and could go faster with a better driver. Sandown 1:32. Gets some interesting looks at scrutineering.

Needs a cage, seat and a harness badly. I'm thinking also a lick of orange paint (Ford Blood Orange in particular).

Fark me that's a nice package. Good on ya :)

Did the IRTBs come with the engine or did you get that made?

I had the manifold made (I can't weld for peanuts and didn't have any way to weld aluminium anyway.) and bought the ITBs second hand. It's a modified 2JZ manifold cut about 10cm from where it bolts to the head. A couple of the runners were swapped around to get to roughly the DCOE spacing. Then a plate was welded to the runners which had the DCOE spacing already cut into it. Then I spent about eleventy billion hours with a die grinder to get it all nice and smooth.

AreyoufuckingseriousTHATISTEHHOT! :yup: Old japanese FTW

2JZ plus 6 throttles + Old School Jap is the definition of FTMFW! Very sweet car mate, I'm loving this new section of pf. Get to see all the great fruits of pf that have been hiding all this time.

MkII coupes are THE hotness. Such a shame it's nearly impossible to find one without terminal cancer these days. :(

I recall being taken for a blat around the suburbs of Melbourne in this thing a few years back, it's amazingly quick for what's essentially a stock NA 2JZ and looked like it would be a hoot to drive. The 3" side-pipe wasn't exactly suburbia-friendly though. :D

And then Norbie buzzed my house at roughly 160 kph in the 2JZ Supra.:rotflol: Seriously quick MA61.:worship:

Oh and here's an mpg file. Right click and save. Radar gunned down the front straight that day at about 196 kph. Unfortunately sidepipe gone.
http://members.optusnet.com.au/corona2jzge/calderpreview.wmv First brown car is a Corolla with a 20V 4AGE, second white car is a Celica with a BEAMS 3SGE making about 180 rwkW, and then there's my clunker.

I do have an mpeg of me chasing down a GTR with the sidepipe still on but it's 23 meg.

I fucking love my 2jz-ge whilst stock and in a jz80. I could only imagine this would be so much fuckign fun!!! Mine is dead stock and runs 15.0 and for me its a fast car!!!

To boot you have a great engine, sexy car and a great example of what a 2jzge can do in a light body.

This is an awesome car. Get some cams!

gianttomato

Haha!

I actually have a ported head, 304* (262* @ 50 thou) 11mm lift cams, uprated valve springs and shim under bucket conversion for it already.
I'm about to go and do 2 weeks locuming in Rockhampton so I can do the bottom end properly to suit - looking at Ti rods, lightened crank (bit like atomicfabio's thing on US supraforums) and some 11.8:1 forgies. Considering a dry sump after reading Bill's thing and talking to CelicaRA45.

All this shite has been sitting on the shelf at home for about 4 years - I'm so hanging out to get it done now.

I should probably learn how to drive fast first though.:knock:

Things are going to hot up with with that new engine. I look forward to seeing the results.

estimated power with built motor?

gianttomato
04-12-06, 07:24 AM
No idea - bit like asking how long is a piece of string. Want it to spin to 9K, looking for around 200 rwkW but I'll be happy if I get close to that.
Vaguely tempted to sell this head, port the VVTi head I have and go nuts on a VVTi motor to try and keep some midrange. Problem is I already have the other stuff, need to sort out VVTi cams - all too much effort. Maybe the next build.
I also have 2 other projects I'm about to get into - cash becomes an issue. Got myself a 1MZFE all alloy Camry motor and I want ot RWD that. Also have a nice V8 and a 6 speed that I want to slot into something small.

fair enough, no one has done similar work that you know of?

I guess it would be rare for someone to modify a GE...

I've been browsing all these threads mostly without comment cos my comments get rather repetitive - so much interesting stuff around.
1MZFE, is that the first of the Camry V6's from the late 80's? The 125kW ones in the imported "Camry V6"? If so, I recall them as being incredibly smooth, friends of my parents had one of those & I was Designated Driver a few times when going out for dinner - and remember needing to look at the tacho to be sure the car had actually started, if there was any sort of background noice, 'cos the engine was just so quiet & smooth.
What're you RWD'ing the 1MZFE into?

There may be different versions, but the 1MZFE that I know of is the 140kw 3litre in the post widebody Camry. Its a very nice engine that is happy to idle along in traffic, bounce of the revlimiter or tow a car around.

Norbie
05-12-06, 11:02 AM
Forg, you're thinking of the iron-block VZ series V6. You're right it was very smooth and loved a good rev, but the alloy-block MZ series is better again. :)

gianttomato
05-12-06, 09:20 PM
Forg, the 1MZFE is the later Camry V6. It's all alloy. I made an adaptor ring for the earlier VZ iron block but the bellhousing pattern is the same so I figure I'd use the later motor (seeing as I got one for free). The other nice thing is that it doesn't have the same appetite for head gaskets as the earlier iron block V6s. The major stumbling block is that there is nowhere to mount the starter motor in front of the gearbox, but there is a nice piece of webbing that can be machined away. I'll be putting this into an earlier Corona Mk2 coupe.

Any idea how much the car weighs ??

1200 kg on the local weighbridge. That's with full interior!

I've got a Mk II 74 Coupe. They're a good looking car. I haven't really looked after mine sadly and I'm paying the price now. The bonnet has rust on the underside that's too far gone and I'm looking for a replacement now. The paint is also peeling off the roof which is one huge panel that runs down the sides and all over the back.

I've never seen another two door around at all. Plenty of four doors though.

That's my fault. I just made a post about looking for a bonnet and this was down the bottom as a "similar" thread. I looked at it and didn't notice the date.
