This is my evo 1. I've owned it for about 2 years now.
I've been responsible for the suspension mods, boost controller & a remap of the factory ECU.
(As well as the usual maintenance :) )

The 5th gear synchro was pretty knackered when I got it. I managed to score a 2nd hand VR4 gearbox for $70, and I replaced the hub and synchro in-situ.

Engine:
4G63 2L turbo
Original internals
"small 16g" TD05H turbo
Evo 4 BOV
Gizzmo Boost controller
Remapped factory ECU, limiter removed etc
HKS 3" exhaust, dump pipe
Drivetrain:
Factory front, rear and centre viscous LSDs
Suspension:
Koni yellow adjustable shocks
Kings low springs
Whiteline 20mm rear swaybar
Cheap and nasty camber front adjustment kit
Evo 3 front control arms (being fitted soon)
Front castor bushes (being fitted soon)
All the work is done by myself, with some help from my dad (who is a mechanic ;) ) where required.

Looks good Alex :)
Awesome car, looks to be in good condition too :) I love the earlier model Evos, they are absolutely HOT :)
How can you ruin 5th synchro? How often does one rush it into 5th?
PS 5th looks like it is from a camira 5 speed :D
Nice car btw.
Nice car! Always liked the first of them...
Muz, turbo cars usually munch 5th before they do 1st, unlike normally aspirated cars. People (like me) that don't change down a gear before hammering it...

Thanks guys.
Mitsi buggered up the design of the faces on the synchro or something.
There is a service kit for all the early variations of the W5M33 box (5 speed 4wd) that replaces the synchro & hub with revised ones.
(But I'm just a cheap bastard and figured that the barely-used bits out of a $70 parts box will be nearly as good as a $500 kit)

Do you frequent Balcatta at all?
Pretty sure you used to come into my old work.

Inteh: Yeah, I get down to MCs a few times a year. Want to get out at the speed dome some time. Coincidentally, I used to own a red CC GSR for a few years before I got this.
TJ: Yep, I work in Balcatta. Where was your old work?
snota: Yep, it's Loz's old evo.

Thats a great car. The prior owners looked after them well.

Yep, it's been rock solid for me.
Only the usual suspects have needed replacing - water pump, tailshaft yoke, and the 5th gear stuff.
The turbo exhaust housing and exhaust manifold are both pretty cracked, won't be long until I replace them. (probably go with the big 16g from gtpumps, and the ported manifold).
Chris, do you know much about who imported it?
Alex.

Yes. I know the guy (not well). He supposedly did my car as well, but thats not what Ralliart told me, so I suspect he was trying to take credit for it. He still owes me money though. I put it down to a life lesson.
And that ruins a synchro how?
(Ps I'll fight ya):D
WELL, because the....umm... the rotation of the prima... the driver doing...umm...
get fucked.
Any more questions? :)

The synchros usually stuff up because people go from 2nd to 5th instead of 3rd and grind the tiny little synchro away. The improvement kit more effectively aligns the dogs under fast shifts, but they are still pretty shite.
I totally farked my vr4rs 5th by missing a gear, and replaced with a magna one (which was free:) )
Very nice evo by the way.
Hmmmm,

That shot looks VERY familiar... although it looks like it has been stolen as the original was watermarked to protect the photographers copyright.. !!!!!

It's one that was sent to me when I was purchasing the car. I haven't bothered taking any shots like this.
Do you want me to remove it?
Alex.

Stinking evos and their ECUS!!
Yay! I can post again! I've had some issues with my account...
Anyway.. glad to see it's still being looked after and having the cash/time spent on it that it needed! I still miss it! :)
Jase/Southo, I think that was my fault! I would have sent one of the pics on the CD you gave me when I was selling it.

Hey Loz :)
You wouldn't by chance remember what type of clutch was put in the evo? I'd like to know what brand & model.
It seems to be reasonable until you abuse it a little, and then it overheats and starts slipping like crazy. I'd prefer to know what sort it was so that I can choose something different next time.
Alex.
I'm pretty sure it was a 5 puk sprung centre, it was done by Penrith Brake & Clutch and it was one they make up themselves, the receipt is at home, I'll check it and let you know.
Go the exedy twin/tripples, very nice ;) I'm not sure if you can get em for that model though?
Wow that's impressive :) I always found it good and gripy when giving it a hard time but then I never put it on the track.... ;)

Alex - I have a sprung button in mine. Best clutch I've had (three in total since I bought it almost 7 years ago). Avoid anything organic (sounds like what you've got).
Nah I think I avoided the organics because of that...

I'm pretty sure Dave did a clutch on it just before you bought it too. Really heavy/bitey one.
Yeah Dave put in a bits and pieces clutch in just before I bought it and told me I would have to put in another one as he wasn't sure how long it would last and even after I bought it he wouldn't stop harassing me about it until I had it replaced. You know what Dave is like and for him to care about it, I knew it had to be bad. It was also a pig to drive!
Jase/Southo, I think that was my fault! I would have sent one of the pics on the CD you gave me when I was selling it.
Right !! That's it.. I'm sueing !!!!
LOL..

The clutch is ok most of the time, but after about 10 minutes of spirited driving, it just seems to get really soft on the surface - I can dump it pretty hard, and it won't bite well at all.
I've had so hot on a couple of occasions that it lets go in 5th on boost - the engine just revs out. Needless to say, that usually signals to me to stop being a hoon, and let it cool down.
I do slip it a tiny bit on release when I'm pushing it hard, because I don't like to shock the drivetrain all the time.
Alex.
Ok, the receipt says... Heavy Duty Sprung Brass Button, as far as I know they make em there (Penrith Brake & Clutch)
Loz
Just saw this.
Like it a lot. Assuming a private import?

It's a yellow plate personal import.
I didn't import it though, I'm the second owner in Australia after the importer.
I need to update this, the wheels and clutch have been changed recently.
