View Full Version : My JZS147 Aristo
Since the sale of the laurel I thought I might chuck a thread up on here about my Aristo...I have wanted one of these since 2001 when I saw a personally imported one driving around the streets of adelaide. Even though it was NA it just had a really nice stance on the road. When I found out they came with a GTE I was sold. I informed my importer of this and he did his best to assist with the approval of these cars from Canberra so 6 months ago he sends me an email with this:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v329/MR1GGTE/JZS147%20Aristo/FGDWFG00083.jpg
it was a grade 4BB with 61,000 km's and at a fairly decent price too...I was sold.
It hung around in japan for a little while becuase I was unlicensed at the time and was in no rush to have it sitting in my garage doing nothing. When it eventually got here we were all more than impressed at the car as not me or my mates had driven or been in one before. A lounge should not get up and move that quick.
I eventually got my license back and the first thing I did was change the wheels to Amistad 19's (19x9 and 19x10)
This is what the car looks like as of now:

last pic is sans tint.
and the obligatory 2J shot:

Currently the car has only light modifications fitted:
HKS Deathshroom pod
the 19" amistad wheels (19x9 +32 and 19x10 +30 for anyone interested), these are wrapped in Wanli S-1088's (these are a very good tyre and very grippy) :P
HKS Boost Guage
Solartint Reflective tint
RSR Lowered springs
Removed rear mufflers replaced with straight pipes, makes the car sound like its ecotec powered, that will be changed when we do the rest of the exhaust next week sometime.
Car made 198.1rwkw at Tillbrook Auto and Dyno, just a curiosity run before some more mods start.
What I have sitting in my room for this puppy:
KKR Fmic specially designed to fit in the front of the aristo without totally molesting the front end and front bar (specs are 580x180x130)
Stainless Steel bends and some straight through mufflers for the exhaust
SAFC II to take some of the fuel out
Turbotech ball and spring bleed valve
HSD Coilovers are on their way
2x Belcanto Headrests and screens (getting retrimmed in same colour as interior)
Kenwood KVT-M707 in dash TV/DVD player
Im thinking about an MV stage 1.5 shift kit and 2800 stall as well...but not 100% on that...I do like the idea of it chirping second though :sandyvag:
Power goals are around the 260-270rwkw mark...and id like to run a 12 second pass, bit hard when you have to go to calder to do a fucking run though :( but I would also like to do it in style...hence some of the asthetic mods...anyway...enjoy...and let me know what you think :)

That is a nice looking car. Much prefer the old wheels though. Did you keep them?
Cal.

the old wheels were nice...but the widths and offsets were too conservative for the sort of car im looking to build asthetically...the Amistads are no leb spec chromies though, they are relatively light for a 19" wheel and worth around $5K brand new from japan :oh:
plus aristos really do swallow 18's too easy...they had to go...
yeah I sold them got fuck all for them too...which kinda sucks seeing what they are worth brand new...and these puppies were in good cond with brand spankers nangkangs on them
Huge bang for buck these things, I have a mate that got one imported that looks identical to yours - owes him $13,000 landed, complianced and registered.
Chucked it on the dyno and it made 316hp @ wheels with an exhaust, 14psi & SAFC… everything else standard.

Rattles, noises etc or is it pretty good?

Ride quality is good, not soo good with the 19's and low profile stretched rubber...was really good on the 18's though...probably going to get worse with the coilovers though...
build quality is what you would expect for a toyota...superb...interior is very celsior-esque but clearly newer...I like the celsiors inside...so I dont have a problem with this car :)
What do these things tow?
Cal.
couldnt tell you mate, me and the old man have a hilux for towing...
i think you would struggle to fit any sort of largeish towbar under there once you have done a decent exhaust anyway...
new plates came yesterday...I didnt really think this through...people are now gonna think im greek and I can no longer do anymore random daytime skids...

Yep, agree'd. If the rear had E55 like tastefully chrome tip exhaust, would complete the car well I reckon.

Tops of a car though :yup:
Ah so that was you going past The Stag last night with the gambling venue placard on the back of your car.

nice! unique and tasteful. I'd love something like that as a cruiser :)

Was on a work trip with some of the lads and we had spotted it when drinking outside at one of the tables. Then the bouncers came over for a look and left with a laugh :)
As an aside, why does that side of Adelaide have 3 chicks to every guy?!?! The flange on display was impressive...

East End is very good, but there's more interesting stuff to look at at the Freedom carpark in the west end though ;)
The NA Aristo you first saw years ago was that white one that used to park in the lane next to Hungry Jacks on Pultney/Rundle? That thing was always hot as
yeah I reckon thats the one...

and it's just in case we're blind and cant read the trim panel above :)
Very nice. Really like the rims you've put on as well. God these things are good value.
You were right, the plates were not thought through were they! ;) Now all you need to do is change those back to something a bit more intelligent, take those dumb stickers off the rear window and move that boost gauge off the dash. :D
cheers
I might see if I can make a bit of cash off the plates in a few months when they become more popular...boost guage stays, kansai sticker is gone but the iron chef one has to stay becuase I gave Kristian from Iron Chef imports my word it would stay on there :)
besides i dont mind it :)
Selling the car so soon?

GL with the sale, by far the best example on the market currently.
god forbid i ever become a family man ill be jumping on one of these.
fucking nice car.
hehe nah ive had it on carsales since i got it...the recent upgrades will mean a change in price but i dont think i could part with it now...its just too much fun...got the rest of the exhaust done last night...3" stainless system that splits off into 2x2.5 inch just before the diff with one 3" straight through "turbo" muffler...sounds insane, not overly loud and it now makes 1bar of boost without any adjustment of the bleedvalve...which was set to stock, spins the 245's just accelerating through first...i love this car
I reckon this car would be heaps good for driving down Phillips street/Ashwin Parade in Thebarton at 8am on Friday mornings.
Looking very nice too! :)
just a quick question, are these things coil sprung or airbag?

Looked good on West Tce last night.
got the cooler install finished thursday night
dimensions of the core are 580x160x130 so its a big thick sucker but it certainly does the job as the Aristo made 255rwkw on a low reading dyno on friday after the SAFC was tuned AFR's were steady at 11.0 and boost was also steady at 16psi :)
pics of cooler install:
