CHE Race car

ok i thought it was time to tell everyone about the new project. Dave and myself decieded that my ute had too much power for the street and it is never going to go down the track fast with out a auto, knowing that i would never put a auto in my street car we decieded to build a race car, so we ripped the engine out of my ute and a stocker with a cam was fitted back in (yes it is very slow now) and some carbon plates were fitted to the exo-skill twin plate and it is now the tow car! still making 280rwkw so it still goes ok!

its a 99 VT commodore, started life as a V6, we purchased the car off one of our customers 4 weeks ago and began work straight away!

we have all the parts here now just have to put it all together,

first things first must thank all the people that have helped with the project so far,

Josh, Rece, Tim and Chris for all the help thay have given in stripping it down and making little bits and pieces for it,

Peter from Textralia for the Clutch for the tow car and inlet manifold

both the side impactness, and the turning turtle are reasons you really would like a cross brace in the main hoop...

Nos is there and wired for when we want to use it,

it will make plenty of power when we want it to

they go up and down, and are 1/10 the price of the orignals, we will see how the hold up to the test of time, but for the moment they are all we need to get it running, i would have loved to use some tial 44's but just a little out of the budget at the moment

have used a few of the gates and had no problems with them and they are very cheap, which at the moment is the big seller, if they last 12 months then they have served well

it will be running in super sedan at the big meets,

done a fuck load today, just doing boost controller lines now, it actually cranks over now and has a tune loaded into it so it will start straight up when the time arrives

ah the rear wheels are special made to suit 6 1/4 back space so we could get a 28x9 under there with out waiting 14 weeks for a set to come for the USA,

they were a prick to fit as the rear calaper had to be *machined* to clear the wheel and a whole heap of other shit!

traction is going to be the biggest problem'

the caculators are telling me at 3000lb, 850hp 8.8@156 which is what it is basically geared to do, it may go to 160 but i dont think it would go any more than that

yeah i'm sort of comparing it in my mind to tuffss3 that red VX SS from higgins. That's run a high 8 / very low 9 and it would have at a guess somewhere around 750 at the tyres and I'd say it'd weigh more than yours. Its a good comparision anyway as yours is a pure race car. I agree 7s is not likely on that tyre. It'll still shake a few people up.

the converter is a known thing, its out of a 8.2sec full chassis LS1 powered car which our gearbox builder happens to own :)

3000lb is hopefully on the top side of the weight, hoping for 2800 or so but we wont know till it gets on the scales!

its more along the lines of doing something that hasnt been done properly before, no one has built one of these cars with a good engine and box setup and left the IRS in it and gone fast, the ones that have tried all plod along with there high 9sec time cards. i have no doubt we can make the HP to run big numbers (the only thing limiting it is the size of the injectors!!) its just a matter of now getting it down the track fast,
daves mazda went 9.4@142 on its second pass down the track, it weighed in at 1200kg race ready, it made 479rwhp on the gas, it 60'd 1.31, this should 60 in the 1.40-1.45 range, will weigh about 100kg more but will have 350hp more :)
its not the stock drive shafts etc, the diff is a full spool, 31 spline half shafts with some of the biggest CV's i have ever seen, they would want to be good for the $4k price tag that comes with them,

with out these guys our night would have been a hell of a lot more stress full!!

first pass she went 9.6@147 turning the tyres pretty damm hard so i pulled out some power and dave was a little less aggressive on the trans brake and it bogged and only did a 1.7 60' but ran 9.9@142, with the same tune up and a little more trans brake went 9.6@143 with the 60' coming down to a 1.51, made a few suspension changes and pulled another pound of boost out and went 9.7@141 with a 1.48 60' on 11psi!!

so over the next few days ill go over the logs and start using the e-boost 2 to its full potential and bring the boost on after the 60' mark to get the MPH back up and hopefully will keep the 60's down!!
