View Full Version : Second job for a bit of cash on the side

So I've been doing a fair bit of work around my house (moving shit, landscaping, general labour) and fuck me if I don't enjoy getting out in the sun and getting my hands dirty. I have some fairly lofty financial ambitions this year so I thought why not get out and work 1 day a week every now and then to earn a bit of coin on the side?

It would have to be worth my while, so I'd be looking for some decent money as it would be handy to have some extra cash in the hand. ;)

No idea where to start, but I'd be keen to move heavy shit, shovel concrete, whatever. Anyone know of anything? Or have any suggestions?

Labouring? Maybe landscaping place or someplace that trades a lot on the weekend selling shit like timber or something.

i could prolly hook you up with 1 day a week labouring for my treelopping cousin up the sunny coast, money wise dont expect more than $20 an hour cash though.

$20 / hr???

After finding out what those blokes charge they could pay me more than that!!!

You aren't providing any of the equipment or paying for any of the consumables though, they are :p

i reckon $20 an hour cash is bloody good for unskilled labour. You wouldn't get much more than that on a union site, and we pay our qualified tradesmen usually around $40 an hour - sub-contracting - and they have their own tools

And they have to pay tax or super, insurances etc. too remember. That's the whole point of cash, you meet half way. I do odds jobs for relos and family friends etc for $20/hour. I charge $25-30/hour on the weekends depending on the work and who it's for. It's easy money and a great work out and you're outside all day.

lol dude you only 'enjoyed' it because you could set your own pace. go to a building site and ask if you can do labouring.

you'll not soon forget that lesson hahaha

So my mate installs backlit posters (ads) at shopping centres every Sunday, gets paid per centre and per poster, a day's work is $800-1200. I need one of these $1k/day jobs, they currently don't have any work unfortunately.

Please advise.

I'll do that too if any come up in Sydney thank you.

I need a new job. I'm about to go back to my in office staring at a computer uni job, I still haven't enrolled in uni yet, I don't want to go back. I just want a simple fucking job for once in my life, no swimming through cooling tower mud and getting fibreglass rash-let alone the cuts that never heal from the chemicals used in them. No more random bullshit jobs - although I always looked when we had the demolition jobs- swinging a sledgey around is always good fun. Always.

Muz:

12 or so posters per shopping centre x $8 per poster = $96
+ $40 per shopping centre x 8 shopping centres per day = $1088

Lexar: got any more info mate?

Sorry mate, nothing more to add. It was a friend of friend.

Maybe go have a chat to your local real estate agents and see who they get to do it?

Yeah he's doing that kinda work, but I heard from Bill Sherwood that he's not that good at it so that's why he gets paid poorly... :D

Tremolo: I'm always on the lookout for guys to help out cash in hand with my work. Have a few guys that I use but as they are all qualified contractors in other fields they arent always handy. Swing me a PM and next time something comes up I'll give you a buzz.

Rorge: I need someone who can clean other peoples pipes, not their own all day ;)

I dont really do that sort of maintenance work anymore anyway unless by special request. All new clean commercial work now.

Hey I know some guys who have one, two brothers in fact, I might offer to help out and press some of my own when they're not around. What could possibly go wrong?

This is clearly your fault though unless your the bitch in the realtionship and she proposed to you.

Tell her parents your a traditional kind of guy and as per tradition they are forking out for it.
