Not sure if this should be in the rant section...

Warehouse worker(s) needed. Location Canberra. Able bodied people, can be male or female (must be hot if female!) required to pick and pack orders ready for delivery. Heavy lifting involved, up to about 40kg.

Workers must have a clue and willing to actually work. Prefer older (+30yo) workers.

Automotive interest/experience an advantage but not essential. Forklift licence an advantage but not essential. Car licence an advantage but not essential.

Hours TBA, could be 9-5 or 8-4 or whatever arrangement the boss decides is needed.

Need to make your own way to work on time. "I missed the bus" or "car broke down" doesn't cut it. Get up earlier to catch the bus or get a reliable car. Must be ready for work when you get there, not have a smoke and a coffee and phone your mates and then think about work. Do this shit in your own time.

Optional OT available, up to an hour a day or up to 5 hours Sat.

Must be computer literate (don't have to be Bill Gates but basic computer skills required).

Uniform/workboots supplied after probationary period.

Leave iPod/MP3 player and mobile phones at home preferably. Must speak English. This is because it's a warehouse and there is shit happening there and if you have your iPod jammed in your ear or don't speaka da language then you won't know until it's too late when the forklift drives over you or drops a pallet on you.

Young, know-it-all, smart arse, lazy, druggo, pissheads need not apply.

I always wanted a job in a whorehouse. Quality assurance preferably.

The "amongst others" list is also quite extensive and the QA job was relativley normal in comparison.

So essentially you're asking a +30 year old to lift +40KG's repeatedly....

How long do you honestly think this is going to continue before you get a compo claim?

I've been doing it for 4 years without any problems and I'm over 40. Another guy there is in his 60s and has been doing it for about 10 years no probs. "Officially" I think the "safe" recommended lifting load is about 15kg and over that you are supposed to get a hand but in real life other workers are not always around and when the job needs to get done urgently then you have to DIY. There are trolleys (like shopping trolleys, so you still have to lift the object onto the trolley too) but they aren't always available either. Wusses, Mummy's boys or Princesses need not apply either. Try HTFU.

I work in a warehouse and we lift up to 55kgs by ourselves most days and this is legal.

There is no longer a prescribed maximum weight limit for lifting for either men or women.

Even if you can't lift it, as long as you put in a solid effort/attempt, other employees will help.
Give young guys a chance though mate, find the right one and he will stay loyal to the company forever.

Give young guys a chance though mate, find the right one and he will stay loyal to the company forever.

We've had several through the place and they have all been next to useless. Especially the current crop. No work ethic. Take 2 hours to do a job that should only take 1/2 hour and then don't even do it properly (probably because they spent an hour sending SMS or playing with their iPod). Older workers aren't perfect but for the most part are way better than the younger guys.

We just put on a new young guy and at the interview he was fiddling with his phone texting his mates! He came to work yesterday (2nd day on job) after having only 2 hours sleep because he decided to drive to Sydney and back. No idea what was so important in Sydney, nothing I'm sure, but I suppose I should be glad he did actually show for work, even though he didn't do much when he got there.

Go into a shop (retail such as Harvey Norman or service like a coffee shop or takeaway) and see the 'service' you get, or rather don't get, from a lot of these people. I went to HN a while back wanting to buy a GPS and after finally dragging a young sales guy away from chatting with his co-worker about what he did the night before he had absolutely NFI about the product I wanted. So I went to Dick Smith and found another young guy who was actually very helpful and had excellent product knowledge and spent my $400 there.

The problem too is the company, they don't distinguish between a dropkick who doesn't work or fucks everything up and a person that works their arse off.

Unfortunately for too many years employers have overlooked 40-50 year old's, thinking it's either cheaper or better for business employing much younger people. I agree with you wholeheartedly about the lack of service these days. Fuck me half of them can't even count, have real problems if you offer them X amount of $$ plus correct change.
Pity your not located in S.A. that job would suit me fine.
