As some know, Ive got an R33 GTS25t which Ive had for over 3.5 years
spent alot, did some ok times at the track, but I wanted to do something else, have fun, but on a budget, something I can race cheaply (If thats such a term!!) and try some "grid" racing in a series. (im also about to buy a house and get married, so running a skyline just isnt the cheap option!)
So, after looking for quite a few months I found TCR's 1994 MX5 Clubman for sale.
Paul did some good work to the car,
stripped it, cage, bucket seats etc etc, got it log booked with CAMS.
So my R33 is up for sale, and I now have a red mx5 in my garage!
I have done 2 days in it so far - Oran Park GP (on my 5th day of ownership!!) and the Marulan track.
And the smile just doesnt leave my face! I have driven a few cars, but nothing makes me smile more than driving this M5 on the track!
So the car...

6 point cage
Sparco drivers seat
Daytona passengers seat
5 point harness driver
3 point passenger
TEIN Flex coilovers
Whiteline front sway bar
15 x 7 rims with R888's
Hawk brake pads
tow points
bonnet pins
kill switches
I managed a 1.30 for my first ever day in it at Oran Park GP in a supersprint, got 1st in class too :D So was stoked with that!
Its a whole new driving experience, the skyline I can rely on power...This is all about corner speed! something I am learning!
Now I have got it engineered in NSW, fitted a shift light, and mx5mania cold air intake.
Plans....
Well, Im thinking full exhaust system, cams, ECU for a bit more grunt and just having fun with it at the track!

Yeah, this thing called motorsport is so addictive!!!
Ive gotta get some new semi slicks as I think Ive got about 2 track days left on them!
Got a practice day at Oran Park South with John Boston and a few other instructors, so can't wait how to learn to drive this thing quicker and make the most of it!
Would be hard to pick a better car to go with than that. Plenty of suspension and tuning options - right up to a super fast turbo nutter engine (theres one with an SR20 turbo that does the sprints up here that is scary fast).

So just fitted a full exhaust
4-2-1 extractors, high flow car and cat back system
Sounds pretty darn good!
Its not RB25 sound (well der! :p ) but it still sounds good, doesnt actually sound like your typical little buzz box 4 cyl!
Also got some dunlop direzza semi slicks, and off to Oran Park South on wednesday for a practice day, and sunday is the interclub supersprint at OP south, so wish me luck!
Just noticed this looks tops mate what does she owe you all up at the moment roughly if you don't me asking?.

Oh there will be one next year and you'll be organising it. :yup: Chris Gough and I have already discussed alternating between Qld & NSW each year, so hopefully Oran Park GP remains open next year. Otherwise Eastern Creek or Wakefield will have to suffice. :)

I had the invited clubs supersprint on sunday at Oran Park South, came first in class - "2B" - managed a 55.24 which I thought wasnt too bad, considering I have had the car for 2 months!
Had some good battles with some HSV's and WRX's, the corner speed and late braking of the mx5 is awesome!!
A guy in a VZ SS ute came up and he was shocked at how quick the car was and how I lost him through the corners, but the straight he reeled me in.
I told him Ive got about 60-70 rwkw too haha

I've decided i'm not going back to I.P - it's just too expensive when i'm planning on building a new house soon. So it's either an MX-5 or S6 RX-7 and just do some track days and the occasional Supersprint / State / National event with either one...

I have heard from a reliable source that if you call him and offer $14K for it, it's yours. The thing owed Neil $30K+ and you'll wait a bloody long time for a better bang for your buck 2F MX5 to surface. Have a look at the times from the V8 supports at QR last year to see how quick it is. Next outing is....
12th june is an SAU NSW day at OP GP on a friday, and then next interclub supersprint round is June 7th @ wakefield
If your not going to do IPRA, get a AASA license if you dont have a cams pc, and you can do the 5 or 6 MRA rounds.
The NSW Mx5 challenge race is held under some MRA meetings also.
Next year I'll be doing MRA and the interclub supersprints

So went to Wakefeld for round 5 of the interclub sprints.
Woke up sunday morning in Goulburn....had rained over night.
Got to the track sunday morning, wet. clouds looked pretty bad.
So got out there, first session, damp track, managed a 1.19, which in comparison at the time was quick! some big powered cars, like V8 commodores, silvias, some evo's, a mustang were struggling to put power down and were all pretty similar times!
then the sun came out thank fuck!
after my first session, it dried out, and there was sun and blue sky, and a dryish track but not as grippy in some parts.
did a 1.15.9 in the second session, then third a 1.15.1 - bees dick away from a 1.14!
Then there was lunch for an hour where it decided to rain again!
4th and 5th sessions were low 1.15's.
Came 1st in 2B again, so I was happy!!
had some good battles with some wrx's and some alfa's, I just stil lcant get over the corner speed of these mx5's!
I think on a good weathered day, Id see a 1.14 for sure!
Cant wait!

Sounds like your enjoying it Chris, glad to see the car is still going strong.

Oh, I raced at OP GP on sunday, came 2nd in class and a 1.27.2
slowly getting faster in it!!!
