They want to hire a whole bunch of writers.

Fords (Xtreme Fords, Street Fords) -- Two feature writers

Fast Fours -- Tech/in-depth features

Hot4s -- Production Editor and a Feature Writer

Extreme Performance and Zoom -- Tech/in-depth features

Commodores -- Tech/in-depth features

4WD Custom Guide -- Editor (or someone who can run a mag and knows about fourbies, can be trained up)

4WD Group -- Two Feature writers

Looking for actual enthusiasts with a technical bent for most positions. If you are reading PF then you are probably ok. Looking more for car dudes who can be trained up to write rather than journo-types who know SFA about cars.

Out of interest, what sort of coin does a position like this pay?

You guys should hire TJ. His work is good and he has knowledge. *nods*

Yeah TJ would be good at this I reckon. He could do a feature in Fast Fords about FG XR6 rentacar burnouts.

Is this a fulltime gig? I wouldn't mind doing this one day but not sure if I have the time. Or talent/qualifications/etc.

tremolo - despite my high % of shit dribbling around these parts, ive written articles for a few years now.

Just comes down to what something like it would pay - due to my own stupid financial decisions i struggle atm, so moving to a new state would mean it needs to pay ok.

TJ might be worth PM to find out pay and location, then us members who live in sydney can help with travel times and travel costs from various locations, you could pay $50+ a week just in toll road fees let alone the petrol assuming you drove to work.

Fulltime.

TJ, pm sent.

QABB, writing isn't the most well paid job in the world. But there are benefits to the job that can't be measured in money.

To get an idea about pay see the MEA (journo union) website and the agreements they have with most other publishing companies. Express does not have an agreement with the MEA. It'll give you an idea.

How long before they offload them like last time?

I was thinking the same thing...

The Magazine industry is very volatile.. Express is no different, I guess the way they have handled many of their "clean ups" is what makes Express stand apart....

Yeah I think they've tried the minimalist staff thing.

I'm happy to write a technical column to match Dirty Stuff from SM; the main difference would be the amount of swearing.

How long before they offload them like last time?

Up to a year... if you're lucky! Otherwise, give it 6 weeks and you'll be out of work. Express have a habit of letting their staff go on a regular basis.

do they pay more than $40k p/a yet?

Dr_Hoon
01-09-09, 11:42 AM
edit: yep

depends how much experience you have, youngish editorial assistant wouldn't earn that anywhere

they are after technical writers, so if you can demonstrate your worth then you can negotiate

Jim

cool...

last time I looked at this role it was relying more on love for the industry than solid pay.

Ive already had a genuine discussion with Adrian about it.

Simply cant afford it with my commitments here.

However, fingers crossed and moons aligned youll be seeing some shit dribbled with my name on it sooner rather then later in some express mags.

If I worked at hot4's as an editor, it would result in a magazine full of pics with captions like [that's shit] [your car sucks] [why did you bother] [looked better stock]
