Hi, enjoy reading PF thought I'd chuck up my project.

It's a 71 rx2 coupe rally car that's being restored. And has been in my garage for far too long.
It's got a shitload of history apparently, raced through the 70s, 80s, 90s. 2e club car in the 80s.

A picture from a bit after I got it.

Intimidating dash. Especially now that the wiring has been cut out. And rewiring will be needed.

And if you want to see argument over its history!

The 13b is now permitted for rx2s in rally so might chuck one in it. Theres the 12a that came with it lying there but it's not started for half a decade at least...

This thing certainly has an interesting heritage. It is good to see that people are able to revive, or at least try to, these cool old cars.

Nice stuff, great to see it getting restored.

You know you can get stuff powdercoated in colours right, it'd be better than painting it... (chassis stuff like your crossmember)

Brother inlaw has an RX2 rally car also, pretty sure it has a 12A.

I will send him this link as he chubs up over anything Mazda

I haven't done much with this, but I went past and took some photos.

How it sits:

The welded in panel on the passenger side footwell (I grinded and wire wheeled it a bit):

The drivers side footwell after some grinding and wire wheeling:

Passenger side sills:

I guess I haven't worked on it enough...

And since I haven't been working on this enough, I've decided what I need is another project car. So I'm looking at building a turbo rx7 rally car as well, probably starting with the white one (running, complete) and using bits from the red one:

The RX2 needs rewiring, some work on the sills, some more painting and clearing up the welded in panels. Then more things, which I'll worry about when they come (like an engine and gearbox). I'll try to do more work on it now anyway.

I am glad someone else has 'problems' with their cat reminding them how long a project has been sitting idle for.
