how do these sorts of processes impact on strength? i have some old gear i will be looking at plating/anodizing/powdercoating/painting, so just want to know the full story.

I know people do it all the time, but one thing that stands out from reading QLD Tpt manuals is that it's a massive no-no from an engineering perspective.

I know very little about the topic myself, but I guess there's a chance that heat cycling high tensile bolts and/or alloying them with other metals can make them softer, more brittle, or any other number of things.

If it's a dark colour wanted, Finished Products now over at Moorebank....there is/was a minimum charge of around $100 several years back when they were at Riverwood.

On highly stressed components, probably not a good idea. If and when the brittle coat cracks, it tends to propagate into the base material.

Gerry did you work for a black bastard in Stanley St?

Ha!

Thought a few coincidences too many, name, Alfas, Bruce and now this. I was the moocher across the road and half a dozen doors up, even saw old Nige out on a ride around Windsor a while back, ready to give the horn blower the usual finger until I twigged.
