I need a strong box to handle more than 580nm torque to fit my Starion track car as I have just broken 2nd gear in my rebuilt & cyroed box today and don't want to replace it with another stock box before the Fraser Coast Sprints.
I have been told that a RX7 series 4/5 should be ok and have a bell to do it but unsure if they can hack it.I would appreciate help/replies from the cluey pf members

For what its worth (about 2 bob probably)...I have a little trick....I needed a 5 speed in my car, so converted a falcon T5 6 cylinder with a Dellow bellhousing behind my 308 (approx 350rwhp) and it has been reasonable. It cost me about $500 for the bellhousing and gearbox and another $200 for the tail shaft adjustment. I also purchased a billet shifter which I would have had to do anyway for a nice positive shift feel. However normal T5 V8 Commodore un-reconditioned gearbox conversions were selling for $2,500 at the time and have the same sized gears and bearings (ratios are different though, much lower first gear in mine).....well, I broke the first gearbox after about 8 months, it cost me $150 from the wreckers to replace and this one has been in there for 2 years without any issues at all.

RX7 Box should be better than the starion box but you have to find a bellhousing from a mazda b2600 - the one with the 4g54 motor. I believe it was a 92ish model which would make sense since that is the same time as the RX7's were being made.

Talk to dellow, even a supra conversion would be the go if the T5 is too expensive.

Thanks for the replies .I have had the bell for the box swap in my man cave for a couple of years waiting for when the box finally cried enough.
Have herd mixed reports about Dellow.

Castlemaine rod shop is another alternative. I too have heard mixed things about dellow. Hardest part is making sure you pay attention to the wide and the narrow block style patterns

Bill Hincher in the states does top work and builds bells for wide & narrow blocks to suit a range of boxes. If I had gone with a 154 I would have ordered one of his custom bells.

R154 is the go. With some Marlin Crawler pieces, they'll easily handle life behind an 800hp 2j in a drag supra.

I agree Towie but unfortunately the swap would have cost app 2kmore than the mazda and was out of my budget

The B2600 box IS a s4/5 turbo style Rx7 box. It might be an easier source for you.

The series 5 box was $600 and is in and am picking up the shortened drive shaft today so hopefully it's all plain sailing from now on
