http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/180715315984?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
It's a 1979 VB
It's a genuine SL/E with rare factory 5.0L, M21 manual trans and 10 bolt diff.
Engine starts first turn of the key every time and car drives but I wouldn't go driving it on public roads, the clutch is on it's last legs and the brakes probably wouldn't stop a push bike
Has a bit of rust but original paint with no signs anywhere of crash repairs or resprays
$2000
Car is located near Carindale
You can get me on 0410649105, if I don't answer txt me and I'll get back to your because I rarely check my voicemail
***My situation has changed suddenly and I'm going to be going away for a lot longer than first expected. I had previously said no to offers because I was just going to put it in storage if it didn't sell. This is now something I'd rather avoid doing so I'm much more flexible to offers. Not really interested in swaps for the same reason***

Yes it's extremely dirty but I thought I'd take some honest what you see is what you get photos. That's how it's sitting at the moment so that's what I took photo's of. I've tried to incorporate as much as possible so all the flaws are visible in the pics. It aint going to win any car shows as it is, but it's rare and there's not much in it for a restoration
All For You
07-08-11, 02:59 PM
Oh and for some reason everyone keeps txting/ringing me and asking if the tail lights are busted so I thought I'd take photo's of them too.
I won't consider ridiculously low offers because this is already cheap for what it is, and at the end of the day I don't really care if I just have to find somewhere to store it and fix it up later when I have more time/space.
Ideally I would prefer cash not swaps, however I will consider swaps for something I can sell quickly for similar value.

What's the mould all about?
Last time the car was registered and driven was in the mid 90's
It's been sitting where I found it in this guys back yard ever since.
It would look a million times better with simple clean up I just don't have the time :(
It looks worse in the pictures than it really is.
Anyone's who really serious about buying it will come check it out so I'm not too worried about how run down it looks in the pics.
I've had interest from a guy in Bundy who wants to drive down to check it out and a guy from Coffs Harbour who's trying to get his brother who lives local to come check it out for him.
It's on boostcruising too but all I get on there is offers from 16 year olds who want to swap me their pocketbike and fishbowl with a dead goldfish

It's got a VC grille.
Passenger rear door trim looks wrong, no velour on it like an SL/E should have.
Edit - I was wrong re door trim, sorry.

The tags are clearly visible, VB SL/E
The interior, including door trims, is perfectly identical to my aunties VB SL/E which she has had from brand new
I couldn't comment on the grill I'm not really a commodore person and wouldn't have picked that up if someone didn't point it out.

8VX69BR (SL/E is the X) 69 is sedan
993009-S (993009 serial number of the car and S = Sydney made the body I think)
M21 (4 speed box)
AVB018201S (18,201 's body made in Sydney)
8X69TJH993009B (the B = VB model in the vin)

I don't really think I'm being unreasonable with my asking price.
Could you even buy the running gear for that much?, 10 bolts are still reasonably sought after
running 308, manual trans and 10 bolt would set you back $1000-$1500
I dunno if anything is too wrong other than it is not a very desirable car and not having 3 minutes to wash the fuckin thing before taking pics is insane.

Yeah I think it is a VC grille.

Should also have Commodore SL/E on the front guards.
Those tail lights are wrong. Black lines shouldn't be there.
My dad bought a factory demo VB SL/E in Firethorn back in '79, was the car I learnt to drive in way back when.
You're not selling the car as a mint pristine restored example, so ignore all of the above.

Yeah I get what you're saying, it's just taken me 3 weekends to find a few minutes spare to take photo's of it as it is, and I was running out of daylight so it was a case of now or never.
And you're both probably right about the grill, I'm not really a commodore person so I didn't pick up on it at the time

There is no cigarette burns anywhere
there is 1 tiny hole in the drivers seat apart from that the rest of the upholstery is perfect, the shit you can see in the photos is because I had stuff sitting on the seats I took out quickly to take the photo's
All the shit you're mentioning doesn't detract from the fact that the running gear alone is worth almost what I'm after and I'm negotiable on price.
Do you seriously have nothing better to do, I only posted it on here because I thought it was a high caliber of users than boostloosing, perhaps I was wrong.

post better pics or clean the car simple.
people know their cars here, obviously more than you do. put it ebay if you think you will get that much for it. good luck, as you will need it.

Ftr, that is definately a VC grille.
VB had horizontal bars only.
Looks like a kingswood radiator shroud rather than the plastic commodore one.
Trim in these is especially prone to cigarette burns, or if you drop your cone.
Is the centre console missing?

I truly feel sorry for you that your life is that pathetic that you have nothing better to do.
I'm not trying to rip anyone off here, if I was I seriously doubt I would have posted pics of it looking so crappy. I paid $1800 for the car and $250 to have it towed to my house. Hence the starting price of $2000 which I have mentioned is negotiable. I had every intention of fixing it up and then selling it. Up until about 5-6 years ago when I started working a desk job I was a mechanic and I have been buying, fixing up and selling cars for extra bit of pocket money for 10+ years now. I have recently been told that I am being moved from my current office where I work to one of their regional offices. I have 4 projects on the go at the moment and can simply not afford to relocate and find storage for all of them so I thought I'd see if anyone was interested. If not then it's not really any skin off my nose I'll store it somewhere for a few months until I have some more spare time.
I was wrong about the wheels and grill, that doesn't mean I don't know anything about cars. It just means I've never had any interest in early commodores, and still don't to be honest. I was always a ford and datsun person, and I worked at BMW for a while so played with a bit of euro.
Other people have picked faults with my post without being a keyboard warrior about it and I've admitted I'm wrong. As I said I have no intention of ripping anyone off, I put it up for a price I think is fair and people are entitled to agreeing or disagreeing.
$2K for a VB Commodore with a factory 4spd and 5 Litre.
Needs work, which is probably why its $2K.
Seems completely reasonable.
I guess if it was a pile of shit BMW or a rusted Skyline you would be more warmly received.

I have the radiator shroud it's just not on the car, same with the centre console.
There's no cigarette burns just crap on the seats in the photos.
I have no idea about the rims at all now, would be interested to know myself now
If it'll stop all the shit I'll start a new thread and take out any mention of it being rare and all original. Hell I'll part it out if someone wants bits, it'd be a shame to see it all separated though, I've asked around a bit and most people have said they haven't seen another 5.0L SL/E with matching numbers and factory manual for sale for years.

This guy is clearly not trying to pass this off as a high $$ clean example, and IMO the asking price is more then reasonable!
I would buy this in a heart beat if I didn't already have so many projects already (sucks to be me)
Problem with the older stuff is too many people remember when they were worthless throwaway shitboxes and still think they are.
The worthless throwaway shitboxes get thrown away then 20 years later people's kids remember their folks had one and want one out of nostalga and the price goes back up again because they are now rare.
It's a reasonable price for a numbers V8 commo that isn't a rusty bag of shit.
Ignore the idiot replies in the FS section.

Exactly what I thought. I personally think old Commodores are giant shit heaps and the prices people are currently paying are nuts, however this thing seems pretty well spot on pricing wise for what it is and what it needs. The fact that it will only ever be worth more as times goes on in line with other "Australian classics" might be something to consider too...
Imagine if it was a matching numbers 808 sedan or VG pacer etc in similar condition or price, cunts would be tripping balls to claw over each other and purchase it.
OP should have mentioned the words "barn find" in his original ad and prevented all this keyboard cunt hurt.

.
yeah - i cant see the problem - first commodore and hi spec V8 manual.
maybe not worth a hell of a lot now - but in the years ahead (if you could keep it long enough) who knows . ...
certainly aint a GT HO - but you could tell yarns to your grandkids (and all the PF cunts in 2040) about how you bought one for $2000 - and then dumped it/ paddock bashed it etc - to their gasps of horror
I actually love the old Commodores....well used to love them.
Owned many, done school projects on them, smoozed over road tests and brochures.
It has made me the trainspoting anorak I am today :)
You would be suprised. People will pay more for these than you think. On the grill, a lot of VBs got changed for the VC grills because the VB grills were quite fragile compared and ended up broken. It's quite common.
With all the numbers matching I think around $2g is pretty normal for this.

Bloke posts up shitbox Commo with appropriate shitbox price and cunts whinge? Fuck it may be a shitbox and certainly not my cup of tea and yes it does have a few oddities and anomalies but fuck he's after less than 2k, fuck do people expect for nothing?
I thought we weren't supposed to be cunty for no real reason in here anymore, this is just bandwagon bullshit. Not the good funny bandwagon either, the sad bullshit one.
I'd be selling it on eBay, say it's a barnfind/ex cop car etc the uleh crowd and bogan crown will be killing themselves to get it.

Only just saw this but I hardly think the guy is being unreasonable, as long as it wasn't totally rusted out or something like that. I'm one of those people that Jim mentioned whose parents had one of these - a Firethorn Red '79 4.2 litre - and I'd be interested in something like that for not much cash that I could do a little bit of work on.
These things are at the stage now where they're not old enough to be classic and valuable (looked at the price of nearly any surviving 70s car lately?), but not new enough to be useful as a daily or otherwise desirable. They're basically at the bottom of the market.

I can see this vb being used as a Variety Bash/ Endeavour rally, or as a shit box rally car, or better yet, as a definate contender in the 2012 Aussie Rally Championship new 2 wheel drive or Classic class.
Still worth as it is $1 to $1.5 k but would need approx 8 to 10 k to set it up for dirt work.
