Thinking about Marlin Crawler tube bumper, maybe rock sliders. How spastic would shipping be?

Aussie made/distributed stuff is just retardedly expensive, most tube bars average $1000-1600 +shipping. Marlin want $365USD for the tube bumper, $395USD for tube bumper with stinger, their sliders are $165USD; Millweld want over $1500 for a bar and $900 for sliders!

Biggest things I've brought in was a Ron Davis radiator and a bunch on airshocks. From memory shipping was a few hundred bucks, but it still worked out far cheaper than buying here. And this was back when the dollar was below 80c

I'm just blown out by the cost of a lot of stuff locally. And most of the big local companies don't do parts that far back anyway, its all YN65 onwards.

Hell I can get monotube Bilsteins for it from summit for $74.95 a corner!

The biggest head fuck of all was the ARB air lockers. Australian made product, full manufactured here yet it's cheaper to buy a hilux locker online in the USA, pay the shipping and even get stung for the import duty than it is to buy the thing off shelf in an Aussie store. Total madness!

You sure they are actually made in OZ and not at ARB's facility here in Thailand ?

I have nothing to add except for the fact that I would love one of those for mine :D

So I probably will design and contract out the bumper to someone locally.

Thinking springs and stuff now. A full set of four 3" (well, up to 7", but over 4" the support mods get ridiculous) Skyjacker springs is just a bit less than a front pair in ToughDog or Ironman shit locally, equally a full set of monotube, 46mm piston, digressive valving, rebuildable, revalve-able etc Bilstein 5100s is about the same cost relation to the typical china 'foam cell' 41mm twintube shit everyone sells.

Thusfar trawling the catalogues I'm looking at ~$750USD for everything to lift it (before shipping), best local quote for springs, shackles, u-bolts, bushes, steering damper, adjustable diff locator etc, sans shocks, was $1650AUD. Surely it couldn't cost me a grand to get four shocks and springs, plus a box of bits and bobs, over here?

Best shot be going through a yank parts broker who does containers and stuff or is it just as efficacious to ship it in privately?

Being that the left hand side springs are probably uprated for their trucks (20R/22R battery is on left, as is the driver), can they just be swapped side to side in the Hiluxs?

Thats a good thing will help stop the lux lean

Hmmm mine already leans over to the drivers side as is... Everything is on the right in the RN46, battery, fuel tank, driver... Can only see new springs following suit.

Do what we do and ignore the markings and just pick the tallest spring to go on the drivers side lol

Ok, so the simple answer then is that the leafs don't care if they're left or right then? haha

I've named it 'Eileen'.

No i'm not 100% sure, just going off what ARB told me. Though i'd never be surprised for some dead shit salesman to not have a clue where their gear is actually produced. Either way it's bullshit :D ARB had no explanation for the price difference, another forum discussion came to the conclusion that it was simply a case of numbers. They might sell 10 000 a year to the USA so they get X price, they only sell 1000 to Australia so we get Y price, naturally higher.

Why Eileen?

Got it in one!:D

ARB are probably now a global company headed from Australia, and a lot of their parts are probably direct distributed from country of manufacture.

Quite a lot of ARB stuff is still made in Australia, including Air Lockers.
Just about all R&D is done in Australia, with bars that have a big market overseas and Aluminium stuff the main items being made in Thailand.
Even then, some of the parts made in Thailand are sent to Australia to be finished off/assembled.

I've been looking for a set of 36x15R15 tyres for the Jeep and have found 90% of tyre distributors in America will organise all shipping and sent them to me (I pay though), they just turn up at my door. I'd have a talk to the shop and see if they'll do the same, saves a HUGE amount of fucking around and money.

Interesting, on another tangent, what sort of shipping quotes have you had on tyres that big?

Buck Nasty

Unfortunately everyone is out of stock until Feb next year :mad2: but I've been roughly quoted $600 - $900 for 4 of them.

Yeah I thought so! Being locally made has always been their big selling point and justification to some of their prices.

Whoa that's big! You'll have to post some pics
(I'm considering buying a set of second hand 33x12.5R15's of a mate atm actually...)

Just to confirm that's just for the shipping right?

Yep, the tyres are US$370ea, apparently they send them to a freight forwarder who waits until they can fill a shipping container to Australia then send it on, keeps the cost down but you might be waiting for a while. It was a rough price too as they can't give a definate price until it's packed ready to go.

It was imported with them on so we want to keep the same size, unfortunately Dick Cepek (brand of tyres that are on it) don't make that size anymore, so I need to replace all 4 with another brand.

Just go to 37s its heaps easier to find tyres

Buck Nasty
26-09-11, 03:31 PM
They're just as hard to find, Toyo do a 37x14.5R15 and that's about it (found the same with the 36x14.5R15, Super Swamper are it). If I go to 16.5 diameter rims then it all changes, but it looks like it might be sold soon so there isn't any point getting new rims aswell.

ZENNON
26-09-11, 03:44 PM
Wow they are monstrous aren't they!!! :D

Ps. Wow what are the chances - the 33's I want to buy from my mate are Dick Cepek's (FC2's to be specific)
From what I remember they weren't too bad wear wise (~75% I'm guessing)
Already fitted so comes on 15" white sunraisers..

He said I could have them for $800 - thoughts?

Buck Nasty
26-09-11, 05:46 PM
That's a good price if it's all 4 plus rims, Dick Cepeks weren't imported into Australia under their own brand, just smaller importers (this might've changed over the last few years however) so they were very expensive. Ours have been on that thing for 11 years now, only done about 15,000kms but they've been in the sun for most of that, we're only changing them because we'd rather be safe than sorry, don't want one of those fuckers going while driving down the freeway :D

if the stuff is made in thailand then it *should* be even cheaper in australia.

australia has a free trade agreement with thailand (so no taxes), USA doesn't. so USA is paying more tax on the gear but still gets it cheaper. someone is getting ripped!
