Got this in an email from Roothy:
http://takeaction.4wdaction.com.au/
Just sent my email off
Yeah, I've sent off the emails as well as an email to my local MP...
In all serious, who needs more than 6" of increase for genuine / real 4WDing..
Sure, I hate that this is happening, but..
4WD vehicles may raise vehicles up to 100mm (maximum 75mm suspension increase and 50mm increase in tyre diameter size – 25mm height increase) only if you are a member of a 4WD club affiliated with Four Wheel Drive NSW & ACT Inc or the National Four Wheel Drive Council and have completed a driver training course.
4" of lift is a huge amount that they are letting you do provided you are in a club...

Why should I have to join a club to raise my truck?
What if I want to fit big tyres and not lift the suspension for maximum stability?
Because we all whinge and bitch and moan when we see people towing caravans that have no idea and.... Because we all whinge and bitch and moan when we see people driving trucks that have no idea.
It's not just about being in the club, it's about being trained so you know how to drive the POS properly.
I go back to my first question - who seriously NEEDS more than 6" on increase for genuine / Real 4WDing.
Nobody is stopping you from doing it - dickheads still cut springs and dump their cars, or fit 22" rims on a VK commodore, or do other shit and run the risk - even though that is considered illegal - and those laws have been around for years.

I don't think there's many with that much lift getting around on the road regularly.
If dickheads are still going to be dickheads what's the point of a law they'll just ignore anyway?
I'm not a member of a 4x4 club and haven't done any training.

Majority of 4wds don't have any lift. Nobody NEEDS any lift. People want it. Very few people NEED a 4wd in the first place. They want one. This is just the usual case of govt wankers coming up with garbage to justify their jobs and people who it won't affect going "I'm ok with it so everyone should be". Should make a law that makes it compulsory to wear a helmet any time you leave the bitumen.
No, you're right. I don't need a 4x4. Nor do I need a boat to go fishing, or tackle to use when I go fishing. Tennis players don't need racquets and a tennis court, and soccer players don't need a field to play in or camera to record their poor nancy boy falls when they get a love tap from someone on the opposing team...
We don't need to put turbo's on the transmission tunnel of VSs, nor do we need to put rotaries in MX5's, but fuck, I like getting in my fourbie, and going out and doing a little rock crawling, hell, when the weather is good, I like hooking the boat up, going out off the coast and dragging a lure or two - hell, sometimes I even come home with a feed of tuna, or snapper, or kingfish, or squid. Yanno why I do these things? Because I enjoy doing them. I work my fucking arse off so I can afford to do said things, and pay a fucking cuntload of tax on my earnings, to allow me to do these things, and then here comes the fucking government, trying to regulate me out of a fucking hobby. Well if I can't do my fucking hobby, maybe I should just work enough to pay the bills and put food on the table...if we all did that because we were regulated out of a hobby, our government would be royally fucked (well, more so than it is now).

What about those of us that want to fit 35" tyres?, inly need 1 inch of spring and one inch of body lift to do it on a hilux so thats doable with the new bullshit but the most we can fit is a 31" tyre.... bit fucking pointless

Or you could just cut more body out. I've got 33" tyres on the rocky without an inch of (suspension) lift, but I'm royally fucked with these stupid fucking laws.
Then if you want to do it - do it, nothing will stop you when you have that attitude, run the risk like many others do..
I am not saying the rules / suggestions are the best thing they have come up with, but it's a compromise (and a lot better than they first came up with).
There comes a time when we have to let them have a little win and keep them happy and I think that for the MAJORITY of the 4WDers out there - this won't affect them. - as for the others that it will affect, I reckon most of their cars are not engineered anyway and some of the mods are just downright dangerous - so nothing will change their attitudes.

How much does that increase from the stock rolling diameter?
29" tyres are stock on a hilux. 6 inch increase in diameter, 3 inch lift from tyres.

So fitting 35" tyres to a Hilux has been a no no from an RTA perspective since November 2003.......
