Not talking about how much weight a 4wd can tow, but rather how can you tow a 4wd.

Most car trailers you can hire seem to have a max limit of 1200-1500kg meaning that most servo car trailers will struggle to carry a normal car, legally.

Where in Sydney can you hire a trailer that is rated to carry 2500kg + ?
How are the 4wd boys carting around their comp rigs ?

For anything over 2t you need electric brakes on all axles with a breakaway system that applies the brakes should the trailer disconnect from the tow car. I haven't seen any rental trailers that have this so I can only assume that they either own a trailer or tow overweight. Majority of rental places I have dealt with in the past couldn't care less about what you are putting on the trailer.

Most tow overweight if it's not normal.

Most comp truck guys build purpose built trailers. Or tow on flat bed trucks.

Or an A frame behind a truck / motorhome.

Never looked into the regs myself but I know they vary from state to state.
