Bloody hell.
My nice VN Calais was broken into on Tuesday in broad daylight in Sydney St Collingwood (Melb). I was away from the car for 25mins max!
I'm from the country and hate taking my car to the city FOR JUST THIS REASON. (I really feel for any car enthusiast living in a major metropolitan area who has to deal with this risk every day)
They tried to jimmy out the front passenger door lock, but the car was deadlocked. (ie can't unlock the doors even from the inside)
They then smashed the rear/left quarter window to try and unlock the back door but again the car was deadlocked.
They then smashed the front passenger window, tried the glove box, found it locked so left the car alone.
All they managed to do was cause $2,500 damage and a lot of inconvenience. (I'm lucky because the car has a fairly major stereo, but again I'm careful and remove both the head unit faces and have made all the amps/subs/xovers/eq/etc fairly hard to remove - on the street anyway)
I have had this car for 10 years, and it is still my baby. I wish I could spend just a little time with this guy (or gal). I garuntee his/her hands would find it difficult to break the seal on a beer let alone into a car!
I'm lucky that he/she was an ametuer/smash and grab and not a real car theif. (Pro's don't throw big brick pavers through the car windows).
Insurance company has been fantastic, re-painting whole side of car, removing tint and retinting all windows. Already been assesed (Day after damage was done) and approved for repair.
Car should be back to as good or better than before other than some marks/scratches in the leather from the paver and glass.
I suppose it could be a lot worse.... I still have my car.
Condolences to all who have lost their car to one of these scum.
It just makes me so
