Sabine Schmitz 'ring missile - Ford Transit

Something a little different as the Evo is not worthy of a build thread.
After taking August 2018 off work to do some camper travelling around Australia, the urge to quit 9 - 5 and become a hippie bit pretty hard. Much searching through forums, scumtree and carsales netted a 2003 Ford Transit high roof with close to 300,000 and 70% of the work completed. As dubbed by the previous owner, a Kiwi, meet 'Jake the Buss' A more suitable moniker will be selected during the build.
Current layout sees a double bed, some insulation done, 2 fridges run off solar only, sink, fresh and waste water tanks along with a gas water heater. BBQ and twin burner cooker are also in there too. Twin awnings, seperate living area and drivers cabin Android stereos.
Currently the van is comfortable enough for weekend trips, with the initial shakedown the weekend just gone. Once the weather cools off, will make an awesome base for climbing weekends with the boys.

Plans are to get all the wiring and plumbing in place, then the nopics car start on the interior design part. Predicted completion is for September 2019, then 12 months off work travelling Australia.

Won't the gas bottle have to be in a sealed compartment and externally vented? IIRC there have been a few ugly gas explosions in vans and the odd car boot when a bottle has leaked.

How about "Alf's mobile rape dungeon"????

Looks like it will be a nice rig to tour around in.

Might be worth a chat to Dat2kman to see what can be done for performance, he had a transit for a while that had a tune to tickle it up a bit.

+subbed. Looks like an awesome base.

A work mate did this with a VW going up and down the east coast surfing, scuba diving, mtbing & snowboarding on his 4 days off. Drive up one week, fly home, do his rotation and fly back again the next.

The bug bit so hard he quit to do it full time the cunt. I'm not at all jealous.

Get that gas cylinder vented ASAP.

Lots of ideas on instagram and pinterest for DIY campers, there was a really good website with plans etc but it went belly up last year. At the very least vent the rear area where the gas bottle is.

I have thought about doing this, but when looking into it there seems to be heaps of campervans available that seem quite cheap eg https://www.caravancampingsales.com....o=12&pss=Price so, why have you gone for this option that still needs so much work? Are all the HiAce's that look like ex-rentals totally rooted or something?

Cheaper to just rent a caravan for when you need it :) But awesome build!

Bit of wiring for the exhaust fan done today, along with the living area stereo and USB ports.

                        Sweet factory standard cable trays

Also started on cleaning up some of the the rats nest of wiring left form the previous owner. Poor bloke had no idea. Pulled out probably 10m of redundant wiring so far

Bunch more wiring done on the weekend, found a few more problems
Replaced the blower fan resistor, did not fix the no fan issue. Cunts fucked was my initial diagnosis, further troubleshooting revealed that its likely the motor itself. Stereo wiring and carling switches fitted in the cabin look like they had been done by Stevie Wonder under Helen Kellers guidance. On a positive note, the rooftop spotlights had been wired with decent gauge cabling and run down to the switch, ran the wiring for the front spottie to the same location. Need to decipher how a 6 pin switch SPST works, then will chuck in some relays and blind anyone within 5kms. Estimate there will be about 45 to 50 Amps of draw for the forward facing spotlights. Fitted some sweet LED bedding/mood lighting and light for the outside area behind the barn doors. Found that the second solar panel was not wired in, so that's been added to the list. No pics helped by bringing ice cold water, replacing wipe blades and fitting the toll pass, even got her to do some heat shrinking. Also chatted about improving the living area, and roughly priced up fresh and grey water tanks to be moved under the vehicle. Currently there are tanks inside and leak.

Got a bit of a thing for lighting as will be evident throughout this build. Sexy times lighting above the bed

Lots of light. Light bar across the front, smaller one along with two spot lights on the roof

'Kitchen' area with new light, and unexploded gas bottle

Got the spotlights working over the weekend. Estimate about 16A draw across 4 lights after working through the model numbers and doing some rough math. Cleaned up a bit more wiring by hiding it out of sight. Bought some more fuses, terminals and wiring from Alibaba as it's about half the price from Supercheap.

                            Hopefully there is enough light

Moving through the majority of the electrical stuff quickly, did a little bit of window shopping for kitchen splashback and other kitchen stuff
