Wider Tyres = Traction ??????

I am sure this debate has come up time and time again but I need some advice.

looking into getting some wheel on the ute and I am tossing up if I should go the rather cop bait 10's on the rear and tub the ute or go for the Insurance and cop friendly 8's on the rear.

I am putting 18's on the ute and was just hoping you guys could give me some advice on weither it is really worth putting the 10's on the rear, I have heard different things from differnt ppl about the wider the tyres does not give you any more traction

The Ute will be running traction control through the aftermarket computer and a King Springs, Koni Adjustable suspension set up.

if it's going to be a street only car go 18x8's cant see the point in tubbing it. If you really want traction go 15x8's on the rear and sumthinmg like 245/60/15's

Depends on the contact patch dimensions. Too long and I guess the inside of the tyre will start exerting less pressure than the sidewalls and either end. Too wide, and any tiny little bump will bounce the car and make it lose traction.

Probably a square contact patch is what you want to go for? I'm guessing here.

On a ute I'd probably say 8's, because there's no weight in the back anyway to lengthen the contact patch.

The 8's are a better option all round and have known this for a while but at the same time the 10's were something to think about.

10" are better than 8", but only if you can't bet enough grip with 8's which is doubtful. It's all in the tyres and suspension setup.

My car in the avitar only runs 8's (with 10" tyres) and it gets enough grip with around XXXhp.

Nothing quite beats the look of 10's though, but 10's will most likely require mini-tubs.

The whole Illegal thing with the 10's is my main concern Howy this is a street car and will be driven on the street not to mention my insurance company will go insane, there are ways around the insurance so that is not a huge concern.

I agree with you love the look of the 10's they are damn sexy, nothing better than hell wide tyres under the back

10's will give alot better traction in the dry, but in the wet they will be alot more dangerous, as they are likely to "aqua plane" think of it like turning on ice with ice skates compared to big flat board....
